Meet Ana Guarisma of Miami Beach Yoga in Surfside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Guarisma.

Ana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Miami Beach Yoga started as a personal project and it turned into a beautiful service to the community. I fell in love with yoga a few years ago when I walked into my first yoga class, and I loved the way it made me feel. I couldn’t really pin point what it was but there was something pulling me to go back to class every time. A few years later the opportunity to become a certified yoga teacher suddenly crossed my path, so I did, and it was right then and there where I learned about all the incredible benefits of yoga, and how this combination of poses and postures (asanas), synchronized with breath (pranayamas) has the ability to bring you into a state of mindfulness that has been proven to reduce stress, and anxiety, while rehabilitating and strengthening your body, but more importantly it just really makes you feel GREAT instantly, and I wanted to share that with as many people as possible.

After a few months I noticed that there weren’t many affordable and accessible options around me, if you want to practice yoga at least three times a week, $20 per class is the average cost in the area, or you can choose some monthly unlimited plans if you commit to a monthly charge of around $170 or even $200, and that is not an option for many people. I live by the beach and I loved practicing there. And that’s where the idea to start this organization started.

Miami Beach Yoga or also known as @95thstreetbeachyoga in social media, offers yoga classes right on the sand, for a suggested donation of $10 per person, no contracts or sign up required, just show up with an open heart, ready to break a sweat, breathe some fresh air, and maybe meet some new friends practicing yoga by the soundtrack of the ocean. I feel grateful that we have great weather most of the time in our beautiful Miami, and that we can enjoy our workout and maybe go for a dip in the ocean right after. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Has it been a smooth road?
I feel like this was a project that was meant to be, I saw the need in the community, I felt an intuitive urge to go along with it, and the people responded. I didn’t really see any challenges, as time went along more and more people started showing up to our classes.

We have a lot of locals that come to our classes, but we also have some tourists, and we have people that travel 50 miles east to get this “treat” on a Saturday morning. Most people live a very busy schedule, and beach yoga it’s a great practice that can help you disconnect from your busy lives and connect with nature.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a producer/writer, a mother of two beautiful girls, a Yoga and Meditation instructor, and an Intuitive and Energy Healer. I have been working independently for the past ten years and this allows me to focus on doing only what I enjoy doing.

In my classes I give people my attention, and with a lot of love and dedication I teach them the right alignment and right ways to practice, as I give them some bits and pieces of spiritual wisdom and talk a bit about the philosophy of yoga. I love creating a relationship with every student and seeing their progress and improvement along the way, not only in their physical practice but also, in the way they act and feel.

I am proud that I followed my intuition and started Miami Beach Yoga, because I now get to share yoga with my community, and other tourists and visitors that’d like to get a piece beach yoga bliss.

What’s different about Miami Beach Yoga/ @95thstreetbeachyoga is the magical combination of beach + yoga + friends that become like family. I believe that nature alone has incredible healing abilities, if you ever feel down, jumping in the ocean can wash away all your discomforts. When we mix the amazing stimulants of nature, and yoga, this becomes a truly energizing experience.
