Meet Amy Morin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Morin.

Hi Amy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2013, I wrote an article got 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do. Over 50 million people read the article and a literary agent called and suggested I write a book. That led to my first book, which was also called 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do.

Since then, I’ve written five more books and went from a full-time therapist to a full-time author.

I now sell mental strength courses and I get paid to be a coach and am hired by companies all over the world to give speaking engagements.

I’ve gotten to appear on the Tamron Hall Show, Inside Edition, CNBC, Good Morning America, and CNN to talk about mental strength.

I have two new books launching in 2023.

I’m also the host of The Verywell Mind Podcast, where I’ve been able to interview lots of interesting people including Kevin Hart, Matthew McConaughey, and Terry Crews. My show consistently ranks in the top 50 mental health shows and it’s been featured by People, Good Morning America, and NBC news.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I was a therapist who never intended to become an author or an entrepreneur. So, I didn’t know a lot about setting up my own website, let alone finding ways to monetize my ideas.

I spent money on some things I shouldn’t have–like hiring people to help me build a course when I could have done the work myself.

It’s also been a struggle at times knowing where to invest my time–like writing more books or giving more speeches. And figuring out how much time to invest in social media versus activities that lead to more direct sales.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I never enjoyed public speaking but in 2015, I gave a TEDx talk that attracted more than 22 million views. It changed the course of my career as it helped me become viewed as a credible public speaker. It’s landed me opportunities to speak to huge companies, like Google. Under Armour, AAA, and Cisco.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
During the pandemic, most of my speaking engagements were put on hold. Some were canceled, some became virtual, and others were rescheduled.

I launched a podcast during that time because I wanted a way to still talk to audiences. It was a great opportunity to find new streams of income when my main income source was cut.
