Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Fatigate.
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Every Child Matters of America
Every Child Matters (ECM) was founded 13 years ago with a simple but powerful mission: to support at-risk youth and children living at or below the poverty level in our community by pairing them with caring mentors who help guide them toward success.
We are proud to be an all-volunteer organization, and every dollar we raise goes directly back into supporting the children we serve. Through ECM, mentors meet with their assigned children several times a week, building relationships that provide encouragement, stability, and positive role models.
In addition to mentorship, Every Child Matters provides essential support, including food, clothing, school supplies, and meaningful opportunities that many of our children would not otherwise have access to. These opportunities help build confidence, strengthen academic success, and open doors to brighter futures.
Over the years, we have witnessed incredible success stories. Some of our children who have aged out of the program have become the first in their families to attend college. Others have secured well-paying full-time careers, and some are now preparing to get married and start families of their own. Seeing these young people grow into successful, responsible adults is the true reward of our work.
None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers, compassionate mentors, and the generous individuals and sponsors who support us financially. Your support makes a lasting difference in the lives of the children we serve.
As we celebrate more than a decade of service, we look forward to continuing this important work for another 13 years and beyond, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed, grow, and thrive.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anybody that starts a nonprofit always has their struggles because it’s not an easy thing to start. It’s been a smooth road. We’ve had some bumps with some things that some of the kids have been through, but we’ve always worked them out and have just always been there for them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have 11 years of experience in early childhood education, but I think that my main thing that I’m most proud of is starting this nonprofit and changing the lives of these kids changed myself as well because I’ve been able to appreciate what I’ve been given in my life and to see how just little things bring so much joy to others whether it’s just going to the beach for the first time or having a birthday party for the first time at the age of eight years old just little things like that could bring so much joy to kids who have never experienced that before and before I started this program I never realized you know how big this need
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that these kids grow up and that they have a good job and can support themselves and eventually get married and have a family and that they break that cycle of poverty, and then they are able to understand that there’s more in their life then the way they had to grow up and that they can succeed people around them love them and care about them
