Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Goldstein.
Alexander, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began my real estate career directly out of college, Pennsylvania State University, where I received a triple major in Business, International Politics, and Psychology. Having the diverse background I had, I was in search of a career that encompassed a wide variety of expertise, and diversity, allowing me to be in complete control of my every day schedule, without having any limit whatsoever in my growth. I was born and raised in Golden Beach, Florida, a private waterfront neighborhood in North Miami, and realized that throughout my childhood, and into adulthood, I was witnessing, and a part of a major transformation of the city entirely. Miami, being in its infancy stages, even until this day in my mind, was, and is for the taking. I began my real estate career with Sotheby’s International Realty, one of the largest real estate corporations in the world. This was a monumental time for me, as it exposed me to a massive level of the industry, and it also allowed me to recognize a gap in the industry in this city, ultimately leading me to have the idea to start a boutique, luxury real estate brokerage. I had done my homework, and researched endlessly educating myself on similar type businesses located around the country in the much more well established luxury cities, and I had my epiphany moment of exactly what I wanted to form. I wanted to create a traditional style, boutique real estate Company that treated itself in the way some of the major investment firms, law firms, and other boutique luxury companies around the country etc. conducted themselves. There was going to be a power behind the brand, the small size, the knowledge, and the history/combination of the people involved. I knew this would be no easy path, as the competition are multibillion dollar corporations, flushed with endless financing, thousands of agents, thousands of advertisements, thousands of billboards, thousands of reasons to stay away from starting a business like this. That didn’t bother me. Further, I constantly found myself in dealings with clients/ opposing client’s attorneys, and financing advisors, and consistently, people far more knowledgeable than me and I felt like I was lacking a significant amount of knowledge to back myself, and my future company up. I decided I wanted to attend law school, and soak up every bit of knowledge of the law which this industry follows, as well as business law to further substantiate where I was going to take this brand. I hand wrote letters to multiple deans of law schools, and although I had a triple major, played Varsity Water Polo for Penn State, was VP of the nation’s largest Business Fraternity, my mediocre grades weren’t impressive to many. One law school in particular believed in me, and my ability to obtain a law degree, and before I knew it, I was working full time, while attending St. Thomas University School of Law. Juggling the life I took on wasn’t easy, but I was determined. Before I knew it, I was nearing graduation, and I knew my timing was right. Within weeks of graduating Law School, I incorporated Miles Goldstein Real Estate. I started the company with nothing. No clients. No listings. No sales. Nothing, but a dream to build a company, and provide a service which wasn’t previously offered in the most spectacular city in the country. One of my right hand guys, who I had brought into Sotheby’s with me, Adi Amuial, believed in me, and took this journey with me, as he still is to this day. I have been blessed to come across others who believed in my vision, and my insatiable desire to create what I envision. We have been in business for 2 years and 5 months to be exact, and we compete with the best of the best, and largest of the large. My first year in business, I was ranked among the top agents in the Nation, built a portfolio of $100+ million in luxury real estate, brought in 10 agents under me, and moved 100 mph. This was, and is a David vs. Goliath story, and we have more than doubled in every aspect since; we have near 20 trained sales associates within the brokerage, double the size portfolio, and sales, and our potential for growth- is endless.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is smooth, and that’s exactly the way I would want it. Each and every bump along the way, has led to an incredible learning experience, and brought upon growth I would have never expected. We are a small business, a mom and pop of sorts, and opening up shop in a city like Miami, at a time when it is coming into its own, in a multibillion dollar corporation controlled industry, struggles are expected, and welcomed. It’s about how you come out of the struggles, and where you go from there that means most. We are in a very personal part of the industry, dealing with what are usually our clients most valuable assets, purchases, and sales. The roller coaster of a journey that comes along with our end of the business is not for the light hearted. Its draining, exhausting, could be disappointing at times and at the same time, exhilarating, enlightening, fulfilling, and there isn’t another industry I would want anything to do with. I am an active broker myself, along with being the broker, and leader of the company, and as I myself learn new things every day, instilling what I previously have learned, and keep learning throughout my company is an endless pursuit. This is the most important part of Miles Goldstein Real Estate. Each and every associate in the brokerage firm, is a top tier agent. This is incredibly rare, and in South Florida, nowhere near the norm. The residential real estate world, South Florida in particular, has a reputation of there being thousands upon thousands of agents everywhere, a large part unqualified, incompetent, and incapable of actually partaking in this industry, a part of every major brokerage, with 876 offices world- wide, and it’s a mission of ours, to have each and every single one of our associates to be at the top level of this industry. It is my dream to have clients, and others in the industry, speak about Miles Goldstein Real Estate’s agents as another breed of real estate associate entirely in South Florida.
