Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Seda.
Thanks for sharing your story with us t . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got into electronic music when I was a young kid. Groups like Tangerine Dream i first heard when I was about 5 Years old which totally opened my young ears to electronic sounds and when I was about 12 and 13, I was listening to Richie Hawtin’s Plastikman, The Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM stuff like that and then in the mid 90’s I was all about the Florida breakbeat Miami bass sound from such groups as Dynamix II and Spacemen. Their live shows, using all outboard gear, synthesizers, samplers etc, got me hooked and I needed to do what they were doing.
So I started spending every penny I ever got on all the gear, samplers, synthesizers, etc. After college, I took an internship with legendary DJ and producer, George Morel and here I learned about what House music is all about and since then, it’s been a part of my life which has taken me all over the world and formed me into the man I am today. I got into DJing, started doing every summer in Ibiza and the rest is history.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, I don’t think any real artist can say it’s been a smooth road. There’s been ups and downs good times and bad times. My first summer in Ibiza in 2004 was where my life really changed for the best. I felt like I really belonged there, I saw what I had never seen, I saw a place where everyone is equal, no matter their race, or what they’re wearing, or how much money they had. I found a place where I felt like belonged. It was what I wanted out of life, a place where we are all free to be who we want. But as soon as I got back to Miami after that wonderful and life-changing summer, my best friend, the one who got me that internship and who helped me find the road that would eventually shape my life, passed away and that was real hard, but I vowed to continue this journey for myself and also to honor him and that’s actually how and why I got into DJing. But it hasn’t been easy like I mentioned. To follow my dream, I was constantly moving to places like Ibiza, Barcelona, Madrid, Punta del Este, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and quite recently Bali. I’ve spent over 15 years moving around the world to follow my dream and it’s helped me become the man I am today.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
What helps separate me from others is my versatility. I don’t necessarily stick to one sound of house music being that there is so much wonderful music out there. I like to read the crowd, the venue, the time of day and adjust my sets accordingly. These sets can go from Deep to Afro, tribal Latin, melodic. And of course, in the evening, in a more nightclub setting my sets may get a little harder but still always have that groove. I can say that I really love percussions so I’m always happy to play stuff with tons of rhythms and this is why I like to dj with 3-4 decks so I can take different elements from multiple tracks and create something new.
What were you like growing up?
Well, I’ve kinda been that class clown when I was a kid. But that’s because I like to do things to get reactions from people. I like to see people have a good time and enjoy themselves. I like to do whatever I can to make a dull moment that much more fun. That also has to do with why I enjoy being a DJ. I like to help people enjoy themselves, help them escape their daily lives and even if it’s just for a moment if I can help them feel good, forget any troubles, then makes it so worth it for me.
