Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Gonzalez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Miami in 1974 to parents that immigrated from Cuba… I went to Gulliver Prep High School and later attended the University of Miami. My parents were in the window treatment business since 1968 so I am up in the business and started working with them when I was 18. After they sold their business, I started my own company which was called Casa & Resort. Then in late 2016, I merged with Italkraft Holdings Group, which is the leader in custom Italian kitchens and together, we formed SHADETEC. Merging with them took the business to another level. Now we sell thousands of shades a year throughout the country not just locally. We have had great success since the merger and grown at a very fast pace. Today we provide shades to most developers, interior designers, hotels, office buildings, condos and private homes. The key to our success is not only the strength as a group but our customer service. Many companies offer similar products but our service, I believe, is unmatched by anyone.
Has it been a smooth road?
No. I don’t think the road to success is ever a smooth one or at least for most people. To me an un-smooth road means you had bumps on the way which equals learning experiences. Those bumps are what make you stronger, wiser and more determined. Now that does depend on your personality, Some get down and quit when the road gets tough but I like challenges, I like to adapt and improve. You have to be realistic with your outlook but at the same time optimistic which sometimes is a fine line. I rarely opt for quitting so I work hard until things work out the way I want them to…
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SHADETEC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
SHADETEC is the leader in window treatments offering products like roller shades, custom drapery, plantation shutters and many more types of window treatments. We cater to the luxury home market, to the top designers, architects as well as the hospitality sector. We work with many of the top developers to provide them with window shades for their apartment projects as well as their condo projects. Many window treatment companies offer the same products, this is true, but what really makes us different is how we do things. Our attention to detail, customer service, our team, our dedication to making sure things are done properly.
I always use my experience in my own home with contractors as to what not to do with my company and sometimes I also learn how to improve as well. When we work in someone’s home we know that’s their sacred space and we need to respect it 100%. When working with interior designers, developers or a hotel project, we know how important it is that we are on time, communicate quickly and perform as promised. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in a relatively short period of time and I am very proud of my team. Although we are always working hard to improve, I can confidently say that no one does it better.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how we are surrounded by people from so many different cultures. In Miami, you are in the US but you have a mix of cultures which is very important to me. I love the ocean so of course that’s what I love most about Miami. As a boater since I was a kid, I have to live by the ocean and Miami offers so many options for boaters. My favorite place to vacation is the Bahamas and I can get there on my boat in 2 hours. Thats a true priceless luxury. I don’t really have a dislike, but if I could change one thing is that I would like to have four seasons but I would not like a long very cold winter either.
