Meet Artist & Musician, Alberto Suarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Artist & Musician, Alberto Suarez.

Alberto, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At the age of six, I was abandoned at foster care, I really didn’t understand what emotions I was feeling. I found myself so confused and out of touch with what was happening. This was until I started listening to music, I mean really listening. While in foster care, I sat next to an old school boom box and would learn every song on the radio in an effort to find something that explained how I was feeling. By doing this, I not only found a way to cope, but I found my voice, literally.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Growing up in Miami in the 80s-90s wasn’t easy for me. I spent my earlier years either in foster homes or homeless in the streets of downtown Miami. During these times, Miami was a very different scene than what it is today. My surroundings were nothing but drugs and crime. I always struggled with feeling like an outsider, as I was not what these streets tried to make me. I always knew that I was meant for more and served a bigger purpose in life. In the moments when I felt alone, scared or out of options, I always turned to music. As insane as it sounds, I would always close my eyes during these difficult moments and would envision myself singing on a stage, acting out these songs that I have learned over time and for that reason, I credit music for saving my life and keeping me on the right path.

Please tell us about your work.
Since the age of 13, I have been “chasing the dream”.  I have been sharing my story and singing on stages across Miami, sharing my life via social media, as well as posting covers on my YouTube channel. I’ve learned that being famous is not the goal, the goals is to share your story and to make a positive impact on the world and also to find personal fulfillment.  I still go to auditions and will always be looking for my big break, but in the interim, I realized in order for my soul to be at peace, to be happy, I need to be creative. Posting my covers on YouTube, connecting with my fans on social media, working on photography and conceptualizing fashion looks is something that allows me to escape from reality and truly makes me happy. It allows for my self-worth and self-esteem to be raised.  Like everyone else, I struggle with finding my purpose every day, but thankfully I am reminded by my fans that I am on the right track.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
To me, the quality of characteristics I feel is important for anyone to succeed is honest and humility. Always remembering that your purpose is never to self-serve but to serve others is the greatest fulfillment and the highest form of success.
