Today we’d like to introduce you to Alan Bebchik.
Hi Alan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Like most Miamians, I am an immigrant to this beautiful country and city. I moved to Miami at the age of 15 and graduated from Michael Krop HS in Aventura. I have a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and started my career in the construction industry. After getting my graduate degree in Project Management from Northwestern University, I transitioned to the technology consulting industry. That was a great launch pad to where I focus today, tech operations. After business school at the University of Chicago Booth, I worked at different startups (Google, Uber, Sonder, Spin, Avinode) until I made my way to The Rounds.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Miami is a great place to launch a tech startup, we have access to top talent and have been getting the support from the city. The only challenge we have seen in the Miami market (compared to some of our OG markets like Philly or DC) is that the Miami average consumer is slower to embrace and adopt sustainability as a key product differentiation. In Miami, the convenience of our service resonates more with our Members than the zero-waste delivery mission we have as a company.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Rounds?
I am the General Manager at The Rounds (https://www.therounds.co/?utm_source=zip&utm_medium=paidpress&utm_campaign=Newtropic_localtoknow), Miami’s first zero-waste delivery service. Right now, I am laser-focused on growing the Rounds’ member base in Miami. Our goal is to reduce packaging trash and ocean plastic, and we can have the biggest impact together! If any of the Voyager readers are eco-friendly, we would love for them to try The Rounds and help make Miami more sustainable one round at a time.
Any big plans?
Our plan is to continue growing The Rounds in the Miami market and to help Miami residents make everyday sustainable choices effortless. Since launching in March we are now in most neighborhoods: Brickell, Downtown, Edgewater, Wynwood, Midtown, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables and Key Biscayne. Our goal is to keep expanding so more people can access our service and at the same time, we can reduce plastic and pollution from the Miami bay.
