Meet Akai Marje

Today we’d like to introduce you to Akai Marje.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m from Jacksonville, Florida. I started singing at a very young age, 2 to be exact. I get it from my mom, Akia Uwanda- who is an artist herself. She raised me on every genre which led me to be diverse in my taste today. After growing up in various choruses’ but not singing the music that I wanted, I started doing covers on Instagram in 2017 which led me to covers on SoundCloud and now music of my own. I’m young and manage myself so I’ve had to go through alot by myself, artistically. I taught & continue to teach myself alot! I’m just glad I continue to grow.

Please tell us about your art.
I make music for the spirit and soul. I want people to be moved, touched and inspired truly when they hear my music. Many of my supporters tell me I have an “angelic” voice, so I pride myself on being a musical blessing(lol). All in all, I just want people to feel good and also be able to relate as much as they can.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Honestly, I haven’t had any challenges because a lot of people offer me their services for free! But I do believe in doing what you can. Everything happens for a reason & in its own time. So if you don’t have it right now, improvise; Writing is free, making rough drafts in voice memos is free, if you have an apple product you have GarageBand for FREE, etc. Trust the process and dont stress yourself out!

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
My music is only on SoundCloud, for now. I plan to have it on all platforms before the end of summer and not even for money…just because I want everyone to be able to listen to it no matter what they use. My handle is my name, akaimarje.
