Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Adam Ramsey.
The story of Dr. Adam Ramsey is the journey of a kid from the small island of Trinidad with a dream. This dream was to be successful and take care of my family. I am University of Florida alumni with a honors degree in Health Education and a Doctoral Degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis TN. I am married to my beautiful wife Chrissi Ramsey and attend Winners Church in West Palm Beach, FL. I have always had a passion for helping people and entrepreneurship. Optometry was the perfect blend of my two interests and I have been on a journey of discovery ever since. I graduated in 2012 and started Iconic Eye Care in 2013. I have been blessed to be a blessing so now that I am in the position I am in, I try to reach back as much as I can to help the next one up. Even though I go out and try to inspire the next bright mind, I remind them that I never saw a black optometrist until I decided to become one. You don’t need to see someone that looks like you to decide that is the career path you want. Follow after successful and happy people, that is what you want at the end of the day. You can become the first and best you that is possible.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t know any successful person whether it be in life or business that can report it was an easy road. The path to success is difficult and only those that have the will to endure will succeed. I believe that it is those challenges that make you stronger and a better person. You don’t know how good of a boss and leader you will be until you become one. There is no book that will completely prepare you for life. You can judge your effectiveness as a leader based on results. Have you made the people around you better? Every day, I wake up trying to be a better version of myself. If you have a set back it’s ok tomorrow is a fresh start and a chance to crush it again.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an Optometrist. I basically help people see better. I am the primary eye care provider for patients in my community. I own Iconic Eye Care in Palm Beach Gardens FL. Iconic Eye Care is a full-service optometry boutique that specializes in Dry Eyes, Contact Lenses, and Funky Eyewear. At my office, we focus on the experience and building relationships. When you leave it is our goal that you will feel heard and educated. The thing that makes me the proudest is the impact I am able to have in someone’s life. I have owned an office that employs numerous employees and when I get to see them thrive, buy a new car, new house and get married when they never thought it possible before that gives me joy. When I see colleagues that interned with me that are now graduating to come into this profession that is amazing. When I see students that never wore any vision correction before, come back the next year and tell me how much their grades have improved now that they can see that makes me emotional. The one thing that sets me apart from others is my passion. I cannot do anything halfway. I put 100% into being the best doctor, husband, and friend I possibly can be.
Any predictions for the industry over the next few years?
The eye care industry is very tricky, we are a health care business but also a consumer business all in one which is different. I believe the shift to personalized service and very individualized care will be big in 2020 and beyond. The customer is searching for an immersive experience with brands they connect with. Any company that cannot find ways to connect with the end consumer won’t be around in 5-10 years. Even in the healthcare arena, patients will have so many options and ways to seek care that the business that understands the needs of the customer even before they realize what is at the heart of their buying decision will succeed.
