Meet ADA

Today we’d like to introduce you to ADA.

ADA, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Ada. I was born in Paris, France to Haitian parents and migrated to the US when I was ten years old. I started writing poetry to express my frustrations as an immigrant but didn’t know I had a singing voice until one of my teachers heard me in the school hallway. I’ve been singing ever since and don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

I initially started singing at talent shows and the National Anthem at sports events. In college, I formed a reggae group called Trinity Children of Man and had a major impact in the community. Once the group fell apart, I went on to start my solo career. I’ve since released three singles. I’m currently working on my first album that will be out in 2019.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I moved to Miami two years ago in hopes of enhancing my network and working on being a full-time musician. It has not been easy, to say the least, but the experiences have been worth it. Working with people, in general, can be difficult. Managing schedules, personalities while trying to stay motivated can be difficult.

Right now, my biggest challenge is finding a producer who understands my vision and that can create the sound I’m looking for. Being a woman in this industry is tricky which can make things extremely hard depending on your perspective. I just try to stay positive and never resort to quitting. That’s not an option.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m an artist, therefore the objective is to always be relatable no matter the topic because I use Haitian sounds and lyrics in my music, that particular community has been nothing but welcoming. I’m mostly known for my energy on stage, thought-provoking lyrics and performance style.

I’m mostly proud of the topics I’ve decided to explore. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing fans who want to talk about the things I sing. Makes me feel like we’re getting somewhere. Together. Staying authentic is what sets me apart. Staying true to my roots and not wavering just to be mainstream is what makes the difference.

It’s important that I honor my ancestors that way. It’s also important that aspiring artists see that as well… that you can find success just by being yourself

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Hard work. Consistency. Self -care. Not selling out.
