Maria Teresa Tupini of Coral Gables on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Maria Teresa Tupini. Check out our conversation below.

Maria Teresa, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Designing jewelry is where I become completely immersed. Everything from sketching new ideas to experimenting with stones, the process feels meditative and always captivates me. Although hours disappear as I work, I always come back grounded, especially when I see how others connect to what I’ve created. Each collection begins from something deeply personal, whether it’s a place that holds meaning for me, or someone I love. My two sons have been my greatest inspirations, shaping the stories behind my latest collections. When clients find their own meaning in those same designs, it’s a beautiful reminder that jewelry can transcend one story and become part of many. It is a timeless expression of love and artistry meant to be cherished for generations.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Maria Teresa, jewelry designer and founder of Del Este Jewelry. My brand was born from a desire to create pieces that embody effortless elegance. Pieces that are both timeless and personal and are inspired by life’s most defining moments. The Sandro Collection was inspired by the birth of my first son. When his little brother arrived this past May, he inspired the creation of The Smeralda Collection. This collection is a tribute to his birthstone, the emerald, a symbol of joy and vibrant energy. I am excited to announce we will be launching it this coming fall 2025. The pieces are edgy and chic, yet deeply sentimental. They reflect the strength, love, and radiance that define the women who wear them.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Becoming a mother definitely transformed how I see the world. Motherhood taught me to slow down, be present, and cherish the small but meaningful everyday moments. It has also shaped the way I approach my work as a jewelry designer. I strive to create pieces that bring elegance, sparkle and a touch of magic to those everyday moments. Pieces that carry meaning, honor milestones, and can be passed down as heirlooms for generations to come.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: trust yourself and your journey. Every challenge is shaping you in the best possible way. Let go of perfection, as real beauty comes from ease and allowing things to unfold naturally. Every imperfect line, every hesitation, becomes part of what makes something truly unique and personal.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m endlessly committed to creating jewelry that inspires and carries meaning. I strive to create timeless, quality pieces that bring effortless elegance and elevate everyday wear. True craftsmanship requires meticulous attention to detail and a deep connection to the inspiration behind each design. I am committed to the kind of craftsmanship that takes time, the slow, intentional work that gives a piece its soul.

My newest Smeralda Collection, which is inspired by my second son and his emerald birthstone, captures that spirit of renewal and quiet strength. I strive to create beautiful pieces that honor the bond between a mother and her child. The vibrant green tones of the emeralds bring a fresh edge to the pieces and celebrate the love carried forward in a new form.

Throughout all my collections, I strive to create pieces that are heirlooms. I often think of the jewelry my grandmother passed down to me, each carrying her story. That’s what I hope to create through my own work: pieces that hold feeling, that become part of a family’s history, and that live beautifully beyond us.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace during the quiet moments with my family, whether it’s watching my sons play or sharing simple routines together. I also find a sense of calm and focus while designing jewelry.

Designing has always been my sanctuary, a place where love becomes form. Sketching, choosing stones, and bringing a piece to life allows me to immerse myself fully in the creative process.

Both motherhood and my work remind me to slow down, be present, and appreciate the small, meaningful moments that make life so special. Through each design, I hope to capture that same sense of presence and love, creating pieces that celebrate life’s simple yet profound moments.
