Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Walker Sinning.
Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started my career in fitness as a professional dancer and danced back up for artists like Pitbull and Taylor Swift. During my time as a dancer, I acquired a Master’s Degree in K-12 Physical Education. In 2011, my husband proposed and we quickly relocated to Portland, OR, and shortly after, Miami, FL. It is in Miami where I fell in love with the fitness community and signed my first major modeling contract with Wilhelmina Models. Soon after, Caroline Gleason hired me to be on her board and I was a full-time working model and fitness enthusiast.
My agents encouraged me to acquire certifications in fitness and wellness so that when I was working with fitness clients, I would be able to be well-versed in all movement styles. Around that time, I started my blog: TaylorWalkerFit.com as a way to document my journey to healthy living. I started posting healthy recipes and healthy living tips on Instagram and an “influencer” was born.
After getting pregnant with my first baby, I wanted to have a firm grasp on what was happening within my body. I acquired certifications in Pre/Postnatal Corrective Exercise and Diastasis and Pelvic Core Consultant. I also fell in love HypnoBirthing and became a certified educator and Doula in Training. I am so thankful to have had the flexibility to work with brands and clients in the social, fitness, and modeling space. I thought I was going to be a PE teacher forever, so the way life took its own twists and turns took me by surprise!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course. At the end of the day, I left my security blanket and pension for the uncertainty of a new life with the person I loved. At the time, I was not passionate about health and wellness like I am now, but I was passionate about movement and that was the foundation. Today, I juggle a lot of hats. Anyone who is a mom understands the struggle. Also, what I do for a living is highly affected by my appearance and season of life. Pregnancy is hard, postpartum is hard and every time I go through the cycle, my career ends up taking a hit. It is a climb mentally and physically, but when I look at my healthy, kind, loving children I know that it is ALL worth it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I think what sets me apart in the influencer space is authenticity. I am not afraid to share my struggles. I go offline for days at a time; t and I am not afraid to go “there”. I think we need more of that on social because it is so easy to get caught up in the travels and perfection of it all. I am proud of the fact that I literally built a full-time job and tripled my teaching salary from home.
I am really working towards specializing in Childbirth Education. Many women go through 9 months of their life without preparing for labor, delivery, and postpartum. They live in fear of the pain and unfortunately, end up having a rough go in delivery and postpartum. I want to continue to change that dialogue, one family at a time. Teach them how to advocate for themselves and have positive birth experiences.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always a dancer. As a daughter of a pro athlete, sandwiched between two athletic brothers, no sport made sense until my mom put me in a dance class. It was where I thrived and I never looked back. Growing up, I always loved performing, but I was always an empathetic and friends with everyone. I always wanted people to feel loved and heard and I think that is how I present myself on social media. I want my followers to feel like they have a friend in me.
