Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Gordy.
Hi Taylor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the beauty industry began at a young age. I grew up in a very small town in upstate New York. My mother was a hairstylist but she was also a natural born artist. I remember always being in the salon- I was absolutely playing in a wax pot, sweeping hair or making appointments! I think I had ambitions of maybe being a lawyer or something in forensics but I was very much a creative being. Living in a small town – being creative or thinking outside the box wasn’t really the “ social norm” – As I grew older and became more in touch with myself, I found myself being drawn into the beauty world and being ok with who I really I am. I moved to Manhattan at 19 and went to esthetics school at Atelier Esthetique on park avenue. I eventually was hired right out of school and offered a job to work at a med spa owned by a “ real housewife of New York” – I would call it being in the right place at the right time. We offered a variety of fun and trendy treatments – and brows. I actually was doing mainly laser treatments and my hands would shake when they asked me to take a brow client.
I was obsessed even though I had no clue what I was doing at that time. It was absolutely a catalyst to who I am and how I got where I am now. Working in New York is not for the weak. You have be tough. You have to stand your ground and you have fight. You also have to be willing to totally put yourself out there. In 2016 I moved to Jupiter Florida, I was seven months pregnant with my baby boy when I arrived in South Florida. I was in complete shock and fear of how my entire life just flipped upside down. Shortly after becoming a mom, I ended up leaving a very abusive relationship. It was do or die. My New York instincts kicked in and with a tax return parlour brow studio was born. I poured my heart, soul and every last dollar I had into learning permanent makeup and with my skill set of understanding natural brows – I just hustled. I’m also a talker and a major empath. I think the way I can connect and feel others is one of the major reasons to my success. I absolutely love connecting and meeting other people. You can give a mediocre service but connecting heart to heart will leave an imprint on people. There really isn’t much else. I just hustled my ass off. Some people say I’m lucky, I just say it’s never giving up and being so confident with what you bring to the table. Now I own one of the top-rated brow studios in palm beach county.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. I do not know a single entrepreneur that has had a smooth path to success. I would say I have hit some pretty massive roadblocks and even had major failures along the way AND! I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THEM!!! In 2017 – I was working two jobs just so I could do brows full time. At one point, I was doing brows at multiple places just to get my name out there. I ended up taking over a small salon and about eight months later, drove the entire business into the ground. At the time, it was absolutely devastating, my father told me “what’s the worst that can happen? You just fail and get up and keep going”- he was right. My dad ended up passing away right before I closed that salon but his words are always in my head, it actually keeps me going. Years later, I’m so grateful for all my failures and struggles. I have had to do a lot of things I really didn’t want to do. Like rent a small crappy space. I remember having no clients and no money and panicking. Moving from location to location. Constantly finding new ways to stay trendy and relevant. Don’t even get me started about wearing every hat in the business. Constantly putting yourself out there is a struggle and it’s exhausting! I wanted so much more for clients during those times and I still want more but it was about taking baby steps and having a solid foundation. All the setbacks and struggles have made me stronger and more confident.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an eyebrow specialist (yes it’s a real thing) permanent makeup artist and esthetician. I specialize in ombré powder brows. We only offer brow services – but we do everything for brows and it’s absolutely life-changing. Giving a woman a natural brow lift and framing the face so perfectly creates effortless beauty! I pride myself in my attention to detail and the obsession for perfection. I also pride myself in being an honest person. At parlour brow studio, my team is dedicated to making women and men feel their best. I’m so proud of my team and their ability to connect and build almost a family dynamic with our clients. We absolutely are obsessed with what we do. I live, eat and breathe brows and my work is ever-evolving because of my obsession.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Definitely my attention to detail. Other than the artistry factor and knowledge- being a people person. I was always that girl in school with the report card that said, “good student but talks too much”. In esthetics school, I remember a teacher told me I’m too crazy and loud to be an esthetician. I think most people try to put you in a box and drown your creativity. My clients love how talkative and vibrant I am. My creativity is one of the main reasons why I am successful. The fact that I’m always just me, unapologetically.
