Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Hauck.
Hi Tara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been an artist ever since I can remember. Drawing, painting, pottery, crafting, jewelry making….I just never knew how I would be able to turn any of that into a career. Since I was a teenager I always had a camera on me…then after I graduated high school, the light turned on SO BRIGHT!! Photography was it. I moved to Missoula, Montana for a summer and studied photography at the Rocky Mountain School of Photography then a few years later found myself in Florida where I furthered my studies at The Art Institute. I have degrees in Fine Art and Photography, they go hand in hand.
I started photographing things, flowers, abstract kind of imagery…then to get my foot in the door and to gain experience I went into portraiture and weddings. I enjoy creating photos in those genres but it isn’t my favorite. My path is constantly changing and evolving, and beings I love variety, currently what brings me joy is photographing content, lifestyle, product, food, interior design and some realestate. There is something about capturing the energy of a space or a subject, the lines, the color, the textures that makes me so happy.
What I’m dreaming of with my photography is getting my Fine Art photos into the world. It’s my absolute LOVE and passion when it comes to creating imagery. I get to play and create without any rules, no responsibilities and no restraints. Just flowing what brings excitement to my heart.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has most definitely not been smooth or easy, but I knew this would be a challenge beings I’d have to rely on myself to make it fruitful. I quit working in the hospitality industry in 2009…I just jumped right in…I didn’t do any advertising…I relied on word of mouth, which to this day has been the best way that work of all kinds has come my way. I will admit, it was scary….not having a consistent check coming in, not knowing when my next job would be…but that really drove me to put the time in with my camera and step out of my comfort zone to get my work seen. I assisted several photographers to get on the job experience and to also build up my portfolio. There were nightmares along the way, equipment breaking down and not having the funds to replace or build up my gear and health issues that took me out of work mode. Slow streaks, busy seasons, too much time in front of my computer that affected my body and health that I did not expect. But 16 years later, I wouldn’t trade it …I learned so much along the way about my craft, about business, and about myself.
In 2024 I found myself on life support and needing a heart transplant. I was in 3 different hospitals spanning 6 months and unable to work for a whole year. This put a huge kink in my business flow. It all stopped, I couldn’t be there, I lost several of my regular and consistent clients because the show must go on. I have basically had to start all over again. It has been a challenge, but this is when I decided that my Fine Art Photography needs to be in the forefront. There is no better time than the present to make my absolute dream creations come to life and to be seen by the world. This life is short, and mine almost ended way before I was ready. I have so much to create, so much to do, so much Love to give…
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have dabbled in nearly all forms of photography. I would never be happy doing the same thing all the time, so being able to create in many genres is what keeps my creative juices flowing. I love to capture the energy and essence of my subject, whether that be a luxurious skin cream, a gorgeous interior design, a sparkly piece of jewelry, the inspiring lifestyle of a brand or natural things like florals and crystal. Natural Light is what I specialize in. There is nothing quite like the beauty of a diffused sun, a ray coming through the window or the golden hour right before sunset.
Details are what gives me life. Put me in your boutique or coffee shop and I will capture every angle, every view, every detail of that space creatively. My imagery is known to be clean, bright and fresh. I am proud to be able to walk into any situation with my camera and create beautiful photos…even mid construction or renovation of a home…within the dirty, dusty, chaotic moments, I’ll no doubt capture every part of that story in an artistic way.
Design has always been captivated me which has really been an integral part of my eye when it comes to photography. The lines, the patterns, the textures, the colors, the details. If the client only needs 10 images, I’ll give them 50 great shots that convey everything they are trying to present. My biggest “problem” has been way too many great photos to choose from.
What are your plans for the future?
My Present and Future plan has been a dream of mine for a very long time…..I envision my Fine Art and Avant Garde Photography displayed in all sorts of places like boutiques, studios, hotels, homes, offices, coffee shops…you name it, I can see it there. I love capturing things in an abstract way when it comes to my own art. Like I said, color and textures and lines and patterns are somethings that draw my eye in every time. I love creating an image that the viewer may not have any idea of what it is, leaving their interpretation up to them. Statement pieces…printed on large scale metals and acrylics. My work conveys energy, magic, awareness, curiosity and calm intentions.
