Life & Work with Tamika Alphonse of Broward County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Alphonse.

Hi Tamika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Gyal Dem Time started as a little Galentine’s Day link-up; something fun to bring the ladies together for laughter, love, and a break from the everyday hustle. But what I didn’t expect was how much it would grow into a movement. So many of us; the mamas, the creatives, the career gyals, the ones always holding it down; were craving a space to feel seen and celebrated. That’s when Gyal Dem Time Day was born! For di bad gyals who need a lil’ loving and a reminder of just how powerful they truly are.

It’s more than a girls’ day; it’s an experience. A safe, vibrant space where like-minded women come to reconnect, recharge, and remind each other that being a “bad gyal” isn’t just about looks; it’s about confidence, softness, and strength all in one.

Whether you’re a mother or just an amazing woman carving your own lane, Gyal Dem Time is where we come together to vibe, uplift, and celebrate the beauty of womanhood; island style. Because sometimes, all a gyal needs is her tribe, some good energy, and a sweet reminder that she’s still that gyal.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been such a beautiful journey. As a single mom of two, balancing motherhood, work, and building Gyal Dem Time takes a lot of intention and heart. Promoting and growing the brand while managing everything else has taught me resilience and creativity. My passion keeps me moving, and every time I see women connect, smile, and feel inspired, it reminds me why I started. I pour love, faith, and that bad gyal energy into everything I do because this purpose means so much more than me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a creative at heart, expressing myself through dance, henna, and visual art. I love hosting, connecting people, and collaborating to create experiences full of rhythm, color, and Caribbean-inspired energy. Music and movement are my tools, and I specialize in crafting spaces where people feel seen, inspired, and uplifted. What I’m most proud of is creating moments that spark joy and connection. Everything I do comes from the heart, with laughter, art, and community at the center.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice is to be bold and curious. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and really listen to understand other people’s perspectives. I’ve found that reaching out and connecting with like-minded individuals; especially those with similar ambition or a mindset that inspires you is key. Networking isn’t just about collecting contacts; it’s about building genuine relationships and learning from others. The more you show interest, authenticity, and enthusiasm, the more doors naturally open.
