Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Maysonet Quinones.
Hi Sylvia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The Second Chance That Changed Everything
From a very young age, I carried a deep passion for seeing the world. I remember watching my aunt travel and return with stories that ignited something inside me. I was curious, inspired… but also afraid. Fear of traveling alone and a limiting mindset kept me from ever taking that first step.
For years, my dreams stayed exactly that—dreams.
Everything changed the day my life almost ended.
I experienced a devastating episode of domestic violence. In that moment, I was attacked so severely that I lost consciousness. It felt as if my soul left my body—I could see myself lying there on the ground, suspended between life and death. And in that moment, I spoke to God.
I asked Him for one more chance.
I told Him I hadn’t fulfilled my dream of seeing the world. I told Him my daughters still needed me. And somehow… He gave me that second chance.
I didn’t waste it.
That same year, I took a leap of faith and traveled to Cuba with nothing but a backpack full of dreams. I had no idea that this decision would not only change my life—but would begin to impact thousands of others.
As I started sharing my journey on social media, messages began to pour in from women around the world. One message I will never forget said: “I’m in a wheelchair and I can’t travel, but every time you do, I feel like I’m traveling through you.”
That’s when I realized—this was bigger than me.
Years ago, God confirmed to me that my purpose was in travel. Without hesitation, I embraced that calling. I began creating content and organizing travel groups for women—not just to explore the world, but to help them release fear, step into courage, and reconnect with faith.
That’s how Las Boricuas Realengas was born—a movement of women choosing freedom, healing, and adventure. (The word “boricua” refers to Puerto Rican identity and heritage Puerto Rico, symbolizing strength and roots.)
In the very first year of my business, we reached seven figures in sales, creating financial freedom for me and my daughters. I’ve been interviewed multiple times on Univision and international platforms like Venezuela TV. Today, I have nearly 64,000 followers on TikTok, and together, we’ve built a positive and empowering community.
But beyond the numbers, what matters most is the message.
I live to tell other women this:
It doesn’t matter where you come from.
It doesn’t matter how broken your past may feel.
It doesn’t matter how impossible your dreams seem.
If you’re still here, there is purpose in your life.
And yes—it is possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road.
Along the way, I lost the job that was sustaining me at the time, I lost my car, and I also lost my credit. Those were extremely difficult moments where it felt like everything I had built was falling apart all at once. There was uncertainty, fear, and many questions about how I was going to move forward.
But despite everything, I did not give up.
Those losses, although painful, became part of my transformation. They pushed me to rebuild myself from the ground up, to trust God and my purpose more deeply, and to understand that my worth was not tied to material things, but to my faith, my resilience, and my determination to keep going.
Looking back now, I can see that every obstacle was part of the path that led me to where I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create travel experiences and digital content focused on empowering women to overcome fear, heal, and reconnect with their sense of purpose through travel.
Through my brand and community, Las Boricuas Realengas, I organize women’s travel groups and share content that goes beyond tourism. My work is centered on transformation—helping women step out of limiting beliefs, build confidence, and experience the world in a way that feels safe, guided, and spiritually grounded. I also use my platforms to share messages of faith, resilience, and emotional healing.
What I am most known for is turning my personal story into a movement. After surviving domestic violence and rebuilding my life from complete loss, I began traveling and sharing my journey online. What started as a personal healing process quickly grew into a community of thousands of women who found inspiration, hope, and courage through my content.
I am most proud of the impact this has had. I have received messages from women in very different circumstances—some with physical limitations, others dealing with fear or trauma—telling me that my travels gave them hope and made them feel included in a world they thought was no longer accessible to them.
What sets me apart is that this is not just a travel business. It is deeply personal and purpose-driven. I combine travel, storytelling, and faith to create a space where women not only see the world, but also begin to see themselves differently. My mission is not just to show destinations, but to help women believe again in what is possible for their lives.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on my journey is that purpose is often born out of pain, and that what breaks you can also become the very thing that builds you. I’ve also learned that there are truly no limits—except the ones that exist in my mind. Once I understood that, everything changed. What once felt impossible became possible, simply because I chose to believe differently And most importantly wothout God can achieved nothing!
