Life & Work with Susan Kolkina

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Susan Kolkina.

Susan Kolkina

Hi Susan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started blogging back in 2016. I’ve always had a passion for writing and thought why not express my thoughts into my very own blog where I can share everything and anything? So, I started posting fashion tips, styling photos, inspo photos, etc. I would talk about my days, and go into detail about my long-distance relationship (advice on that as well), and from that my Instagram grew.

I then wanted to focus on making a brand for myself on Instagram which led to brands and companies reaching out to me and offering their products for me to promote on my socials and my blog. Years down the road I graduated with my major in Public Relations and communications.

I started creating and selling my own e-books online with my journey on how I started to help those interested. I also started offering mentorship programs and came out with my own social media managing and mentoring program.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a very bumpy road. With the constant changes of social media especially Instagram it’s been hard to keep my engagement compared to how it was in 2016-2017 years. It took a lot of learning and growing. I’m very thankful I started when I did because it’s a very competitive area and still is but the fact I started blogging when not many people did helped me to grow and get to where I am now.

It’s also very easy to compare yourself to other “influencers” and bloggers out there so making sure you are believing in yourself and taking your own time reminding yourself to stay true to yourself is key in staying authentic in this industry. Consistency is key as well! You can’t expect to grow or get somewhere overnight. You need to put in the work, be consistent, and keep going constantly.

My biggest advice is that if you’d like to start come up with a niche and rebrand yourself. Clean up your feed a little and make sure that if you’re looking from the outside in you’d want to follow yourself if you were someone else. You need to have a reason why someone would want to follow you.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a blogger and content creator. I am also a social media manager and mentor. I am more proud of my work and how I manage to create content. My creativity is what makes me, me. My hard work is what keeps me proud and constantly motivated.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something people often don’t know about me is that I overthink EVERYTHING. I also don’t always have a positive mindset.
