Life & Work with Steven Staine Fernández of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Steven Staine Fernández.

Hi Steven Staine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“A small kid with big dreams.” From a young age I always loved creating. It was me and my imagination. From pretending to have super powers to creating entire worlds in my head. My imagination was always there with me every step of the way and no matter how much time passed, I never let that part of me die.

At some point in my early 20s I was working a 9 to 5, was soon to be offered a promotion, higher salary, benefits and much more, but then, a question that many ask themselves but fear to do anything with it came to mind, is this it? Is this where I settle down and see my entire life pass me by? Am I not even going to give my inner kid’s dream a shot?

Once I ask those questions I couldn’t help to wonder what was on the other side of it all, of me risking it, of me leaving all of this safety behind me, of me unapologetically and truthfully pursuing the life that I once dreamed of.

And so, needless to say, I drew bravery and strength from places I didn’t even knew I had, left it all behind and decided to go for it.

Even though it was tough decision, I left Dominican Republic, where I was residing at the time, and arrived back to the City That Never Sleeps, the city I was born in, New York City, with big dreams in hand and a thirst for a new life that I would feel proud of.

An Actor who fully immersed himself and pursued the love for the arts endlessly but never aimlessly.

Fast forward to current day, I’ve been part of multiple Feature Films, Short Films, Web Series, National Commercials as well as Theater and have many more upcoming projects in the works.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ll admit, my dreams of being an Actor, to many sounded like a far reach, a delusion, a fairy tale and I don’t blame them for thinking that way.

From millions who pursue it only a few end up making a living from it and even fewer will end up making it big.

It’s been a rollercoaster with many highs and even more lows but all you can do is hold on tight and see it through.

Many struggles to choose from, starting with the bad finances of it all, the never ending rejection, the lack of consistency and the constant uncertainty.

When we are designed for comfort, predictability and stability, a world like this one can easily eat you from the inside out.

But I am a big believer of, there’s more than one way of getting to where we need to, we just have to be creative about it.

The difficulties of it all has made me think outside the box and get creative with ways of making it happen. From being smart with my personal finances, to better understanding the entertainment business, strengthening my relationships in and out of the industry, investing in my career and creating my own opportunities instead of waiting for them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Actor, Artist, Producer, Content Creator and more.

As far as highlights in my Acting career I was the lead actor in a Feature Film called The Burden Of Nine Lives written and directed by Vega Montanez, for which I won Best Actor for in a Film Festival, and I was recently a Co Star in my favorite Marvel Show DareDevil: Born Again.

In addition to all of that, I started my own Movie Production Company called Midnight Rush Films in which I financed and produced the feature film called Blood & Ice written and directed by Adam “Ace” Silvia.

I also recently started my own streaming and entertainment show called The Steven Fernandez Show available on all socials.

As far as my Artistic ventures, I’m musically known as Nico Reservoir. The genre that I lean towards, but not limited to, is Alternative Hip Hop and R&B.

This year I plan to release more songs that I have ever done in previous years so stay tuned.

“The man who couldn’t stay still.”

I constantly need to be creating, taking action and improving. I hate staying still, waiting for opportunities to come my way, hoping for things to happen for me miraculously.

Massive action, that’s what is going to make the difference, that’s what will get me to where I want to get to.

Because at the end, I believe, good things happen for those who proactively take action to have a better more fulfilling life. I focus on what I have control in, anything else, is a waste of time.

What sets me apart from others is that I am relentless in my pursuits. I never stop, no matter how hard it gets, no matter how uncertain it feels, no matter how afraid I may be, I always keep going, because there’s something I’ve learned, our biggest regrets are the actions we never took, so I’ll take as many actions as I need to until it all comes to life, one way or another.

What matters most to you?
My family and my loved ones.

We get so caught up in the selfish pursuits of our dreams and goals to the point of putting everything else on the sidelines and don’t get me wrong I’ve been there and sometimes to this day, I still am, but time is the most valuable asset in our lives and the ones we love the most will remember us for how much of that time we shared with them.

So yes, I’m still fully committed to my pursuits, knowing that the success of them will help those who I love the most, but at the same time, now more than ever I spend as much time as I can with the ones I cherish the most because I would hate to look back and not have those loving memories of all the moments that I shared with them to keep pushing me forward.
