Life & Work with Star OUIDA D.W. of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Star OUIDA D.W..

Hi Star, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started writing plays in college, and surprisingly, they got produced and performed in the city with positive results. I decided to keep trying different genres and was a freelance journalist for various media platforms. Then I wrote a duology Sunbeam and the Curse of the Golden Key, a YA fantasy adventure series which got published as well. As a writer, sometimes seasons are flourishing and others seem still, but it’s all part of the process. Just go with it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been bumps and even ditches along the road. But somehow, I kept my foot on the pedal even when I wanted to abandon the ride. Somehow, I’m still making it through. There will always be critics, but that’s why they are called critics because all they can do is criticize. Believe in your work; let the meanies fall off…

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write plays and stories, as well as non-fiction journalism pieces. I specialize in creative writing and playwriting. I’d have to say that my novels and scripts have been the most challenging but also the most rewarding. Seeing the audience moved in emotion or resonating with my work makes it all worth it. I hope my work evokes readers to see what’s meaningful and beautiful in the universe.

How do you define success?
I think this is a subjective and personal answer for each individual. For me, success shines when I can bring light to the world through my work. Of course money is always a bonus. We all want to be paid for our work, but sometimes the world won’t recognize it right away. Just ask Herman Melville, oh wait… (my point exactly).
