Life & Work with Ron Got The Recipe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron got the recipe.

Ron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My start isn’t much different than most musicians that grew up in a Baptist church. I got my first run on drums at eight years-old. I used to sneak on the drum-set during Thursday night bible study and eventually moved on to performing at Sunday morning church services. By my freshman year in high school, I knew I wanted to join the marching band. I couldn’t get into the band class because of some technicality, so I selected piano instead. The piano teacher installed a music production application on the only computer in our classroom. I rushed to his class everyday so I could have some time to make beats before class began. My parents decided to move during that year. My teacher was nice enough to make a copy of FL STUDIO on a floppy disk for me. That was my official start to making beats. Now, I’m the CEO of my own business and provide clients with music I never dreamed of creating.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path of a musician is one of the hardest ones to stay on. It’s filled with opportunity, success, love, and loss. I’m fortunate to have navigated through the ‘quick money grab’ stage that many upcoming musicians and artists experience; performing for small amounts of money or even paying to perform in exchange for ‘exposure’. The music business can be difficult when you don’t have a solid foundation or target audience. For years, I created music with no intent of where it should go. That lack of knowledge is what I struggled most with as a recording artist and music producer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an all-around musician, songwriter, and music producer. I specialize in R&B and Hip-hop music production. People know me locally as a drummer and music producer however, in the past two years I’ve transitioned to teaching in person, virtually, and through my YouTube channel. I am most proud of where I am in this stage of my career and the opportunities I have on my plate. The fact that my success depends on how hard I work or the amount of time I put into my craft is a blessing. Most Americans have to work jobs they don’t necessarily like to make ends meet. I’m blessed that I’m not in that position. What sets me apart from others would be the way I collaborate with creatives. It doesn’t matter if it’s music production, songwriting, drumming or even video production, I always find a way to make things flow

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Through teaching, I’ve learned that many of our youth don’t have a starting point. When I get to show youth how to create music or record their own vocals, that’s fulfilling to me. The look on their face when they understand how to do it is always an awesome feeling. When they realize that this is something they can do on their own and build into a business is what matters the most to me.
