Life & Work with Rick Ezene of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Ezene.

Rick, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in North Miami, where everybody had jokes. From family cookouts to domino games outside the corner store, laughter was part of everyday life.

As a kid, I was always making people laugh—whether it was cracking jokes in school or turning normal situations into funny stories. As I got older, I realized comedy wasn’t just something I enjoyed; it was part of who I am.

Today, I use my experiences growing up in Miami, working, and navigating life to create content and make people laugh. I’m just a guy from North Miami who turned everyday moments into comedy

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Balancing responsibilities while chasing my dreams wasn’t easy either. I had to learn how to stay disciplined, work hard, and keep pushing forward even when things didn’t go as planned. But those obstacles helped shape who I am today. They gave me resilience, perspective, and a story to tell. Instead of letting my circumstances define me, I used them as motivation to keep moving forward and eventually turn my experiences into comedy that people can relate to and laugh about

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work in comedy is centered around turning everyday life experiences into relatable, authentic entertainment. Growing up in North Miami gave me a unique perspective, and I use that perspective to create comedy that connects with people from all backgrounds. Whether I’m performing stand-up, creating social media content, or telling stories, my goal is to find humor in real situations that people experience but may not always talk about.

I specialize in observational comedy, storytelling, and character-driven humor. A lot of my material comes from real-life experiences—family dynamics, relationships, working long hours, Miami culture, Haitian culture, and the everyday challenges of balancing responsibilities while pursuing bigger dreams. I enjoy taking ordinary situations and presenting them in a way that makes people see the humor they may have missed.

What separates me from other comedians is authenticity. I don’t rely on made-up stories or trends; I pull from genuine experiences and present them through my own lens. My comedy blends the unique culture of Miami, the influence of my upbringing, and my ability to tell detailed stories that make audiences feel like they’re right there in the moment. People don’t just hear a joke—they experience a story. That combination of real-life relatability, cultural perspective, and storytelling helps my comedy stand out and creates a connection that lasts beyond the punchline.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
What separates me as a comedian is my authenticity and my ability to build genuine connections with people. I don’t create comedy just for laughs—I tell real stories based on my experiences growing up in North Miami, working demanding jobs, navigating relationships, and overcoming life’s challenges. My audience connects with me because they know they’re getting the real version of who I am. Through storytelling, relatability, and cultural experiences, I make people feel like they’re part of the conversation rather than just watching a performance. I believe comedy is at its best when people can see themselves in the story, and that’s why creating authentic connections with my audience is just as important to me as getting the laugh itself. Research on comedy and communication consistently shows that audiences respond more strongly to comedians they perceive as authentic and relatable, and that humor helps build trust and connection between performers and their audiences
