Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen K.
Hi Queen K, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started rapping off of an essay I was writing for the Florida Standard Assessment Test (FSA) when I was in the 8th grade. I wrote my whole essay in rhymes received a perfect score of a 5. My high school principal noticed it, told my parents and BOOM a talent show was coming up called School Daze Talent Show presented by Terry Wright of Wright and Young funeral home. My mom and dad signed me up and I ended up winning the grand prize in my age group of $1000. I was then selected for this artist development program called Entourage Expo, not knowing what it really was. My mentor now Jody Hill and the Deep Fried Funk band contacted the Entourage Expo Director Ms Zipporah and asked who was I and they will like to use me and a couple of Entourages dancers to open up with the band for International Pop Rap Star Flo-Rida at the Fort Lauderdale Beach Florida AIDS Walk. Music Festival. We nailed that performance. At that moment, it was still something I was doing for fun not knowing how significant that opportunity was and from there, the rest was history.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It actually started out as a very smooth road for me by God’s grace because from that talent show every other weekend, I was getting called to perform. The most challenging part of all and still is, is learning the business side of how to become a professional by learning the paperwork side of things with starting my own record label Business Minded Music Group (BMMG).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
