Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Gonzalez
Hi priscilla, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey in fashion began in my childhood in Mexico, where I was captivated by the styling in telenovelas. From an early age, I developed a passion for creating looks, analyzing every detail of the wardrobe—hair, makeup, clothing, and accessories—alongside my grandmother. This early experience honed my eye for fashion and set me on the path to pursue a career in the industry. However, my passion for fashion was somewhat overshadowed by the stigmas surrounding me, and the fact that I was told I was never going to be successful if I didn’t major in fashion design, which wasn’t my focus.
Ultimately, I chose to major in Marketing for I’ve always been fascinated by sociology, consumer behavior, and the strategies brands create. Little did I know that these subjects would play a crucial role in shaping who I am today- in the fashion world.
In 2020, the pandemic hit, and like many who used the crisis for introspection, I realized I needed to pursue my passion. At that time, I decided to dive deeper into the local fashion scene with freelance fashion styling work. This inspired me to communicate what I did and how I was doing it, and I opened my Instagram account. Later on I evaluated my options and realized that I could either follow the more conventional route of internships and jobs at various fashion companies or forge my own path. I saw an opportunity on TikTok, where many people were creating outfit ideas, but very few creators were discussing the behind-the-scenes aspects of the fashion industry, such as trends, education, economics, consumer behavior, who designed what, or who dressed which celebrity. I realized that I needed to generate visibility and spark conversation, particularly as more and more people started reaching out about fashion careers and starting tips.
I have now been doing this succesfully for 3 years, and for me, social media has ultimately transformed the fashion industry landscape, making opportunities less bureaucratic and democratized.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think there’s ever a completely smooth road; it just becomes more enjoyable over time, and I think I’ve gotten better at handling or managing those rocky moments. Working in fashion and social media can be particularly tricky, and one of the struggles includes mental health issues. I’ve been very open about this on my socials, but I’ve definitely faced mental health challenges. After an intense period of work, I experienced burnout to the point where I had to take a significant break.
This was particularly hard because the digital world is still relatively new, and we don’t fully understand the long-term effects of social media on the brain. Even my therapist found it challenging. She once told me that it’s not normal for our brains to process the experience of receiving millions of likes one day and thousands of hate comments the next. It’s even more disorienting because it’s not a tangible world. This was something I struggled with, but like in any job, passion or aspiration, you learn from past experiences, no matter how difficult, and you keep going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create fashion content and I specialize in high fashion topics such as fashion trends, consumer behavior, the modeling industry and fashion week. Among some of my most viewed content are runway reviews, celebrity style, and the best red carpet looks. My community continues to grow as time pases by and people start realizing the impact that fashion has in our lives; thanks to an audience that genuinely connects with and eagerly seeks my commentary and opinions on the fashion industry I can continue creating conversation. I think what I’m most proud of is my community, and how brave and passionate we all are wanting to dive into this world. I have had many people tell me that thanks to the content I put out they not only understand fashion better but that they find a passion in it.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I love road trips. I remember when I was 8 my family and I drove from Coatzacoalcos, Mexico to San Antonio, Texas -an 18 hour drive with no stops- and I recall lying in the backseat, playing with my sister, overhearing my mom and dad talking about politics and I remember I felt at peace. While drinking my Hershey’s chocolate milk, eating a cheese sandwich, and looking out the window while singing along to Miguel Bosé I remember thinking, “This is it, this is the life.”
