Life & Work with Paula Salamanca of Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Salamanca.

Hi Paula, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Paula (MP) was born in Bogota, Colombia and moved to Miami at the age of 5. Working full time since she was 17 years old, MP always knew she had a passion for the beauty industry but decided to dedicate herself to the “stable” 9-5 job in private banking. After almost 10 years, she decided it was time to stop working for other people’s dreams and start working on her own; that is when Permaesthetics was born.

Permaesthetics was founded in 2018 with a massage table in the middle of her living room, where she began her journey as a brow artist. Five years later, she has grown Permaesthetics to a team and together they have become the top google rated five star permanent makeup studio in Miami. MP grew her living room dream, into a multiple 6 figure business and is here to prove that just because you don’t have a background in the beauty industry, you still CAN be successful! She discovered her passion for teaching and created Permaesthetics® Academy both online and in-person to empower other women to do the same.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been struggles along the way, the biggest one being starting from a non beauty background. My background and all of my professional career before this was dedicated to banking in the investments sector. So switching over to the beauty industry with no experience was the biggest challenge of all. Having to build a clientele from scratch and having to perfect my artistry throughout the years was a steep learning curve. My banking background helped me on the administrative and customer service side of the business but everything else I had to learn on my own.

Another big obstacles that we went through was during covid as we had to shutdown. I know many other businesses had to do the same but the uncertainty is very difficult when your livelihood depends on your business. Once we were allowed to reopen we eventually went back to normal, but it was still probably one of the biggest challenges.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Permaesthetics, I strive to provide our clients with the highest level of expertise and artistry when it comes to beauty and permanent make-up services.

I am very passionate about helping our clients enhance their natural beauty and feel confident in their own skin. I use only the highest quality products and newest techniques to ensure that our clients receive the best possible results with their brows, lashes, and permanent makeup. I specialize is Permanent Makeup (PMU) for brows, lips, and eyeliner.

My biggest goal is to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where our clients can relax and trust me to provide the very best pmu + esthetic services. I believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident, and I am dedicated to helping our clients achieve that.

I am most proud of being the top-rated beauty and pmu studio in the Miami with 700 5 star reviews.

I believe what sets us apart is not only the artistry, but the client experience we give them once they arrive at the studio. I focus on making sure to get to know my clients, and want them to feel like they are with family instead of just coming in for a transactional service. This has not only helped to keep clients coming back but greatly helps spread word of mouth which is the majority of our new client business.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about Miami: What I love most about Miami is the energy. It’s a city that celebrates beauty, culture, and individuality every single day. The diversity here inspires me creatively. I get inspired everyday by the women who walk into my studio; confident, stylish, and not afraid to enhance their features. The mix of cultures, fashion, colors, and the beauty standards; it all pushes me to elevate my craft and to stay ahead of beauty trends. Miami is the place where beauty isn’t just appreciated, it is celebrated.

What I like least about Miami: What I like least about Miami is probably the fast pace lifestyle. It’s exciting, but it can also be overwhelming; between the traffic, the constant events, and the never ending hustle. While that energy is exciting, it can also be demanding, especially in the beauty industry where clients want the latest look yesterday. This makes it easy to forget to slow down and recharge. But in a way, it also pushes me to stay sharp, stay evolving, and stay connected with my clients.
