Today we’d like to introduce you to Milena Delgado Durán
Hi Milena, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began at a young age when I was diagnosed with cancer. This life-altering experience forced me to confront adversity head-on, leading me to a foreign country to seek treatment. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, I persevered, fueled by a deep-seated desire to live.
A few years after overcoming cancer, I faced another significant loss: the death of my newborn child. This profound grief pushed me to the brink, but it also ignited a spark within me. I turned to writing as a form of therapy, pouring my heart and soul into every word.
It was through this process of writing that I discovered my voice and my purpose. The words I wrote became the foundation of ‘Belleza Oculta,’ a book that shares my story of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of the human spirit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. The physical and emotional toll of illness and loss was immense. There were times when I felt overwhelmed, isolated, and uncertain about the future. But through it all, I found strength in my faith, my family, and my writing. It was a journey of self-discovery and healing, and I’m grateful for every challenge I faced.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always felt a deep connection to words. Writing is like putting an emotional puzzle together, where each piece represents a feeling, an experience, or an idea. I love the moment when all the pieces fit together, and the story comes to life like a beating organism.
The loss of my child was a profoundly marking experience. Expressing that immense pain was crucial for my healing; writing became my refuge, my confidant. Sharing my story through “Belleza oculta” was an act of courage and a way to honor my little one’s memory. The letters from readers showed me that my story resonated with many hearts, motivating me to keep writing and give a voice to those who haven’t yet found theirs.
My next project will explore the power of sisterhood and the importance of supporting each other. I want to show how unity can be a transformative force. Literature has always been my passion, and I feel fortunate to use it to connect with others and positively impact the world.
In addition to writing, my family is my greatest source of inspiration. The love and unconditional support I receive from my husband and children drive me forward. My home is my refuge, where I recharge and find inner peace.
I’m a convinced optimist that kindness and empathy can change the world. I’m passionate about connecting with others, seeking beauty in every soul and goodness in every situation. I firmly believe that each of us has the power to make a positive difference in someone else’s life.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
While I’ve been fortunate enough to receive support from many people, I’d like to highlight my family and friends’ unwavering love and encouragement, especially my husband and children. Their belief in me fueled my determination to persevere even during the darkest times.
Additionally, I’m incredibly grateful to my editor and mentor, René Rodriguez Soriano, who played a pivotal role in shaping my story. His expertise and guidance were invaluable in transforming my raw emotions into a coherent and impactful narrative. Rene’s belief in my work and meticulous attention to detail helped me bring Belleza Oculta to life.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to my communications team, particularly Juan de Dios Valentin, Lily Montaño, Liliana Peralta, and Grisbel Medina, for their priceless contributions to this project.
I’m immensely thankful for my hometown, Constanza. They’ve always supported me, especially when I recently released my new book, “A los pies de la cuna vacía.”
I’m honored to be recognized as the “Meritorious Daughter” of the municipality, a resolution endorsed by the City Council, Resolution No. 20-2024.
Ultimately, the collective support of these individuals allowed me to transform my pain into purpose and share my story with the world.
