Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxi Carreras.
Hi Maxi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey with art began at a very young age. I have always been closely connected to drawing and illustration, and over time I found in tattooing a way to take that interest to the next level. I started independently, working out of a small studio, and gradually developed a very clear artistic identity focused on micro-realism.
Today, I work exclusively on black and grey micro-portraits of people and pets, in sizes ranging approximately from 1 to 3 inches. The focus of my work is on detail, precision, and faithfulness to the original image.
Over time, I successfully established a highly recognized tattoo studio “Studio Orbe” in Rosario together with my partner, Ezequiel Serravalle. From there, we have worked with both local and international clients, with a strong emphasis on artistic quality. One of the milestones of my career was tattooing Antonella Roccuzzo, which brought greater visibility to my work and further solidified my style.
I am currently living in Miami under an O-1 visa, with the goal of continuing to grow and expand both artistically and professionally. Miami represents an ideal environment for me to fully develop my artistic potential, connect with an international creative scene, and bring my work to a broader and more competitive market.
At present, my schedule fills up very quickly; I typically book my work calendar up to two months in advance, reflecting the strong demand for this highly specialized type of tattooing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it was a fairly smooth path. I’ve been tattooing for almost ten years, and I began developing micro-realism at a time when it wasn’t yet a common or widely explored style. Back then, there was very little work of that kind, which allowed me to stand out quickly.
By specializing from the very beginning in a highly specific niche, I was able to grow steadily and build a clear artistic identity. Rather than facing major obstacles, the main challenge was maintaining a very high technical standard and continuing to refine the level of detail as demand increased.
I believe that this combination of timing, focus, and consistency is what made the growth fast and quite organic.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work is focused exclusively on micro-realism. I specialize solely in creating black and grey micro-portraits of people and pets, in small formats, generally ranging between 1 and 3 inches. It is an extremely precise format, where every line and every shadow must be placed exactly where it belongs.
I am known for the level of detail I achieve at very small scales and for the faithfulness to the original image, even in extremely small tattoos. I am also recognized for maintaining a very clean aesthetic line, with soft contrasts and a finish that ages well over time.
What I am most proud of is having built a very clear and recognizable identity within such a specific niche, and the fact that today my schedule fills up months in advance as a result of that work. I also highlight having tattooed Antonella Roccuzzo, which marked a turning point in the visibility of my career.
What sets me apart from other artists is my absolute focus on a single type of tattoo. I do not work in other styles or large-scale pieces; all of my energy is dedicated to perfecting this format. That extreme level of specialization is what allowed me to reach a very high technical level and stand out internationally.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
In addition to my work as a tattoo artist, I have always had a strong interest in business and in building long-term projects. I don’t work solely as an artist, but also as an entrepreneur within the tattoo industry.
I currently own Studio Orbe, a fully established tattoo studio in Rosario, Argentina, where a team of more than 10 artists works. In parallel, I have recently partnered with Giza Studio in Barcelona, and we are currently working on the opening of a new studio in New York—an especially important project for me and for the international expansion of my work.
I invite those who are interested to follow my social media, where I will be sharing updates about this new studio and the next steps in my career.
