Life & Work with Mariela Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariela Morales.

Hi Mariela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my podcast in September of 2022 as a birthday gift to myself, but the dream of doing it started many years ago when I was merely a toddler; I would always play of interviewing my toys and dolls, my parents one Christmas gifted me a microphone and a matching set of chairs for me to interview properly my stuffed animals, when I grew a bit older and digital cameras were a thing I would record myself doing monologues of whatever would come to mind as a 7yr old, always loved blogging and taking pictures and videos of any activity I’m doing as a way to remember and be able to tell a better story about it in the future. I went to school and got a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media with a minor in Digital Marketing, it was the most amazing time in my life studying something that I’m so passionate about and after graduating I thought it would only be fair to start living my dreams and seeing where those take me. I want to become a friendly voice you listen to when you want your day to be a little better, someone who you’d want to be friends with because they make you laugh with their silly funny stories about life! That’s how many podcasts make me feel and that’s how I want others to feel, making the world a funnier place one episode at a time!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I really wish I could say it’s been smooth, but what I’ve learned from my experience in studying and working in the media industry, nothing is ever smooth, and that’s the beauty in it! The media is constantly changing, and we all need to adapt and change with it; there’s never a day that’s the same; there’s always a new story, new trend, new viral content! And while many see it as a struggle because it is a full-time job trying to keep up with everything and staying relevant in the industry, I see it as an opportunity to grow your skills and thrive! How can you be bored or not inspired in an environment who keeps you always at the end of your seat! I truly get butterflies just thinking about it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the host of The Immediately No Podcast. It is available in most podcast platforms, but my main platform is Spotify, which is where I posted my first season before sharing the show on other platforms. My podcast navigates the life of a 20-something-year-old and all the anecdotes I have from every life experience; I share stories mostly in a very comedic manner, I’ve always liked making people laugh but I am not brave enough to do stand-up comedy. My favourite type of episodes are the ones where I share memories from my childhood, I love sharing about my culture as a Venezuelan who moved to North America in the midst of her teenage years. As if going through that transition of being a teenager wasn’t enough, culture shock was just what I needed for my character development! The most proud I’ve been since starting the podcast is about how open I am about my ADHD and therapy, I talk a lot about mental health in my podcast; I think it’s still a very taboo matter in some communities, I have lots of listeners message me about how it is nice to listen to someone who breaks the stigma around going to therapy, we all need it! It’s a nice way to figure out our feelings and better ourselves so we can be better to others. Also, people see ADHD as a disability or something to be embarrassed by, I always say in my podcast that to me it’s like having a superpower! You are aware of everything all the time, which to me is like having spidey senses and also there’s never a boring time because you’re always doing something that’s keeping you busy! Just hearing feedback from listeners and how the show has helped them is what has inspired me to keep going and go extra steps to make the show grow; I just created an Instagram account for the show @TheImmediatelyNoPodcast, after sharing the episodes and marketing on my main account for the past months, on the Shows account you will find clips from every episode, next interviews coming up, updates and any announcements about season 2. This year is going to be an amazing year for the show, and I cannot wait for everyone to listen!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I have always been very outgoing, definitely talkative, my parents say I was the tinniest social butterfly! I would say hi and introduce myself to anyone that crossed my way, not sure how my parents never realized that it came from my ADHD, but let’s just say I was the main entertainer in my family. I’ve always loved art, singing, dancing and whatever would get me on a stage with a microphone; I was doing that! Back in Venezuela, I would perform at talent shows, was that cutie doing the solo in the choir at church, and even joined a dance team in university and performed in many events. I’ve always had an interest in the arts and Media, I have always kept it up with the Kardashians and everyone else in Hollywood, I have won a few plaques on Pop media culture trivias! And I aspire to be in at least 1 reality tv show before being old! (I owe it to my younger self who was obsessed with Kylie Jenner in the first few seasons of KUWTK)
