Life & Work with Maikol Rangel of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maikol Rangel.

Hi Maikol, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Maikol Rangel, and I was born in Venezuela. Everything started at a very young age while I was still in school. While many students focused on homework, I was always drawing. Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. What some teachers saw as a distraction, others saw as talent.

Thanks to my mother, who always supported me and enrolled me in painting classes, visual arts, and many other creative activities, I was able to continue developing my artistic skills. Later, I studied graphic design, which ended up helping me a lot in my career as an artist.

To be honest, I never thought I would become a tattoo artist. But when God’s plans are perfect, everything aligns the way it’s meant to. One day I had a bicycle accident, and during physical therapy I met someone who told me about a neighbor who was a tattoo artist. Out of curiosity — and encouraged by my mother, who told me I should try it — I asked if he would be willing to teach me. Thankfully, he did.

Now, almost 8 years later, I’ve had the opportunity to tattoo major artists and celebrities such as Nicky Jam, Manuel Turizo, Luke Evans, Michelle Lewin, Daniel Habif, Ricky Montaner, Donavon Frankenreiter, and Josef Martínez, among many others. And honestly, I still feel like I’m only at the beginning of my career. I continue learning more about art every single day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey was not easy. At one point, I had to stop tattooing for an entire year due to personal challenges, and later I had to migrate to the United States, which was a major transition in my life. Thankfully, with faith in God, hard work, and perseverance, I was able to establish myself here in Miami.

Along the way, there were many difficult moments, but I always stayed focused on where I wanted to go and the path I was meant to follow.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an artist, I specialize in fine line and realism tattooing, combining art, storytelling, and creativity through every piece I create. Over the past years, I’ve built my career in Miami working with clients from all over the world, including athletes, entrepreneurs, and public figures.

My work goes beyond tattooing — I’m passionate about creating experiences, visual storytelling, and building a creative brand that reflects luxury, emotion, and authenticity. I’m constantly evolving as an artist and always looking for new ways to push my creativity further.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I specialize in conceptual art, which is the combination of realism and fine line — the two areas that represent my strongest artistic skills. Although after almost 8 years in my career I’ve learned to work in many different tattoo styles, including Japanese, trash polka, tribal, watercolor, and full color, my true artistic direction and signature style is conceptual art.
