Today we’d like to introduce you to Lola Murray.
Lola, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started modeling around 2018 which ended up becoming a great hobby of mine. Modeling has given me the confidence I needed to love myself more. As of today, I wouldn’t imagine becoming a model in Los Angeles but I did.
I come from a very small town in Texas so being in the big city of Los Angeles as a model is a dream come true. I turned my hobby into a paid part-time job. I don’t do full-time modeling because I also want a professional career in the mental health field. I love modeling but I love helping people emotionally. Who says I can’t do both?
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say I struggled at the beginning when doing open-call auditions and self-tapes. In the modeling industry, it is extremely competitive and as a plus-size model, there weren’t that many auditions or jobs for a beginner like me. I worked hard to create the perfect model portfolio website and model digitals and took modeling courses for poses and walks. At the same time, I was also a college student studying psychology so I had a few struggles. I managed to be organized with both and it worked out great for me.
As time went by, I ended up getting auditions with Hulu, Walmart, and Sephora. The more auditions I did the more experienced I was getting with making my self-tapes perfect. Through those struggles it was hard but it paid off because I ended up being in my first ever magazine with Fashion Republic and my first ever front cover magazine with Swing Magazine.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Model and a Mental Health Clinician. Modeling is my part-time job that I do on the side as a hobby. As a Mental Health Clinician, it’s my full-time professional job. I love the fact that I can do both because I love being behind the camera and supporting others in the mental health field.
I am known for playing a Cyberpunk Character in First Shot, which is a short film. It was my first ever background acting job. I have more to work on but hopefully one day I can be known for more projects soon. I am proud that I accomplished so much in my life by completing college and being on the front cover of a magazine. I didn’t think I would get this far but I did. I am proud that my goals were complete and it makes me so happy.
What sets me apart from others is a good question. I think my personality, confidence, and the motivation I have set me apart from others. I am not saying I am better than anyone but everyone is different and unique in their way.
How do you think about luck?
The role of luck in my life has been unexpected opportunities. When I did the magazine cover submission I didn’t think I would have been chosen by the editor but the magazine of Swing chose me for the cover so it was the best day of my life.
Luck comes in many ways but sometimes random events can create a door toward success. Within my schooling, it was more of having the motivation to do the work so the only luck I had was my decision to complete the assignments.
