Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Blocker.
Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a 19-year-old college student based in Florida. All throughout high school, I got compliments on my outfits and questioned how I was so fashionable; I soon discovered thrifting and thought, “why not help those who want to be fashionable, but have no idea where to start, and better yet, do it all sustainably!” So, I searched and searched to find a way to sell secondhand clothing online and started on Depop (an app that acts as an online thrift shop), but after growing for a few months, I moved to create my own domain (prelovednreloved.com) so I could personalize everything and make it exactly how I wanted, offering my customers the best prices possible!
After selling clothing for a few months, I saw that “style bundles” began to be a very popular trend and are now my best-selling products! Style bundles are packages that are curated specifically to you, your sizes, and your style! I offer a couple of different types of stylings, and I try to make them as personal as possible! With these, you take a “style quiz” telling me all of your sizes, likes, dislikes, dream style, and linking a Pinterest board to help me create exactly what you’re looking for! After that, I go thrifting for your goodies, usually spending hours at a time on each client, finding the best items available.
After I thrift the items, I come home and create a “digital style guide” for each client, being a scannable QR code that opens up a link, showing the client how to style each item and explaining my thought process when choosing each of their goodies. If needed, I alter, paint on, bleach, or do whatever is needed to recreate their dream outfits! I also ensure that all items are washed and clean before shipping out, prepping the products for their brand new home! Each package is shipped out with love and care; In the last year, I have been on a podcast, online magazines, and famous Snapchat stories, spreading positivity and helping individuals all around the globe grow their sustainable closets! Styling over 250 clients, going as far as Saudi Arabia, this is the ultimate dream job and I cannot wait to grow and prosper this business to it’s full potential!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My main obstacle would probably have to be keeping up with trends. Recently, trends have come and gone in less than a week and being a fashion-based business, if I’m not staying on-trend, people won’t stay interested. Since my products are all secondhand and thrifted, it is my job to go out and find my customers the sustainable versions of all of the trends.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Aside from my thrifting business, I love all things photography and videography in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle industry! I create short videos for my business’s TikTok account (@prelovednreloved), I also love to create an aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed for my shop (@shopprelovednreloved), and most of all, I love to create content for my YouTube channel (@freckledlaur) where I show behind the scenes of my business, stylings I have put together, and my life outside of my business!
How do you think about happiness?
Business-wise, when I get customers that email me reviews, telling me that they love everything that I sent them, and it’s exactly what they were looking for, or customers tagging me in videos/photos that they post on social media wearing what I sent them. When I get any sort of feedback from my clients, my heart is instantly filled with relief and I can tell my brain, “Hey, it’s okay to stop overthinking now, they love everything and your hard work is paying off, queen.” Just knowing that my time and effort is helping a person around the world dress how they have been dreaming, feel comfortable in their own skin, and grow their sustainable closet, is enough happiness for me to last a lifetime.
Personal wise, I seem to find happiness in little things; sitting along the beach watching the sunset and snacking on sushi, laying in the drizzling rain on a hot summer day, jumping in a pool fully clothed, journaling my thoughts and gratitudes first thing in the morning, rearranging my room once every month, hanging out with the people I care for and love the most, even blaring music while driving along with all the windows down, I have really been trying to appreciate every little moment in life, and I hope to continue doing that for as long as I am able to! <3
