Life & Work with Gina-Marie Bethel

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Gina-Marie Bethel.

Gina-Marie Bethel

Hi Gina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
I began my journey with a deep curiosity and passion for the Arts and Technology.

At a young age, as technology was emerging at a vast rate, I found myself drawn to Graphic Design and the inner workings of how things work with computers and different software; I immersed myself in learning as much as I could about it. This passion led me to pursue Graphic Design, Web Development, and streaming, where I gained valuable knowledge and skills that laid the foundation for my career.

As I progressed, I sought opportunities to apply what I had learned through internships, projects, or freelance work. These experiences allowed me to refine my skills, exposed me to different aspects of Graphics & Web, and helped me discover my strengths and interests within it.

I encountered challenges and setbacks along the way, but I remained determined and resilient. I used each obstacle as an opportunity to learn and grow, continuously pushing myself to improve and evolve. Networking also played a crucial role in my journey. I sought mentors and peers who shared my passion for Web Design & Streaming, learning from their experiences and insights.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
While my journey has been rewarding, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Like most people, I’ve encountered my fair share of challenges along the way. These struggles have tested my resolve and forced me to adapt and grow in ways I never anticipated.

One significant challenge I faced was during a time when I was working on a major e-commerce website without the team I have now while working a full-time job and trying to manage life. Many changes from a client were simply unsure along the way, prolonging the launch date. This can become a bit frustrating when you have a client that drags their feet, but this experience truly taught me how to basically have a more thorough consultation process, grab the helm tighter, and set ground rules like instilling frequent updates to stay on target to project completion.

It was a difficult period, and there were times when I felt discouraged and uncertain about the path ahead. However, I refused to let these challenges define me or deter me from pursuing my goals. Instead, I used them as opportunities for introspection and growth, finding strength in adversity and emerging from the experience with a renewed sense of determination.

Another obstacle I encountered was when my Servers had a complication during an update that left my entire system in the red for a few hours. This presented its own set of challenges, requiring me to dig deeper than usual to solve the issue and ensure my clients weren’t completely uncomfortable during this time. It was a humbling experience, but it taught me the importance of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Overall, these struggles have been instrumental in shaping who I am today professionally. They have taught me valuable lessons about resilience, determination, and the importance of perseverance in the pursuit of my goals for my businesses.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I specialize in Web Development & Streaming, where I develop and design websites for small businesses, creatives, and larger organizations.

I also implement streaming platforms and connect local businesses with tools to appeal to a larger market and adjust to growing trends worldwide. I am known for winning the most recent Bahamas Press Club Website of the Year Award, creating provisions for the streaming of The Bahamas’ annual Parade Junkanoo so that Bahamians all over the world could have a taste of home with the click of a button.

What sets me apart from others is my approach to the task and my ability to not panic under pressure. There will almost always be a bandwidth issue, signal issue, etc.; what is important to remember is that it is fixable if you calm down, think clearly, and locate the issue. Additionally, my commitment to Web Development and Streaming drives me to continually strive for excellence in everything I do.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would be The Christmas Holiday with my entire family on the island. I’m considered a Christmas baby, so that time of year is always special as I always loved the smells, sounds, and preparations for the big Holiday dinner and Boxing Day Junkanoo Parade.

There’d be the unpacking of holiday decorations, tons of phone calls from family that’s out of town, the sitting to finalize the menu, and the sleepless days cleaning and wrapping gifts. These times were certainly the best for me when I was growing up.
