Life & Work with Gabriella (Gabi) Garcia of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriella (Gabi) Garcia

Hi Gabriella (Gabi), we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been in love with photography ever since I was little, but never decided to share my work with the rest of the world until 2019, when a friend had asked me to take their graduation pictures. Photography and exploring Miami has always been a huge passion of mine, which is why I dedicate so much of my time to it when I am not working or spending time with family and friends. There are so many fun opportunities that photography has been able to expose me to and so many beautiful memories that I have been to experience such as proposals, birthdays, weddings, etc. This gift has shown me that there are so many hidden gems in Miami that are worth being photographed and shared with others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obviously you are always going to find challenges along the way. Because I started with graduation pictures, I would of course have months where a lot of people would ask me to take their pictures around graduation time, but then there would also be months where I’d be lucky to have one person ask me to do so. Slow season is a real thing that sometimes can demotivate you, but you can’t let it distract you or make you think that your work isn’t worth it. The key to making these negative thoughts go away is to have a positive mindset and just trying to expose yourself the most you possibly can. Showing people your work as much as you can is what is going to get your name out there.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
On a day-to-day basis, I currently work as a Registered Behavior Technician, in the process of getting my Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credentials. However, most people know me for my love of photography and making sure that you are having the best time possible when doing so. When I am taking pictures of other people, I put music that my clients like, I talk to them and try to learn their story; just making that personal connection with the people I am taking pictures of. For a lot of people, taking pictures makes one feel really uncomfortable, so I try my absolute hardest to let others feel comfortable in their own skill and know that this is a safe space where they are able to let loose and have fun. I feel like nowadays photographers just take pictures to do their job and get their money and leave. I’m not like that. This is something that is supposed to be fun and memorable, because these are memories that you’re going to keep forever.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is something that I take with a grain of salt. I don’t think that I was made “lucky” to be where I am today. I think the person I am today is based off of the hard work and dedication I put into everything I do. I am someone that when I want something, I put my all into it. I don’t think that good luck or bad luck has affected me in any way. I think that everything happens for a reason and that at the end of the end, what is meant to be, will be.
