Today we’d like to introduce you to Federica Balestrieri
Hi Federica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a journalist, I’ve been an anchor woman at RAI (Italian radio television), for 25 years.
Special Reporter first, at Raisport, around the world following Formula 1, then anchorwoman for 7 years of Pole Position, the Rai 1 program dedicated to Formula one Grand Prix
and at the end I’ve 7 years at TG1 evening news.
A cool, exciting job that I had chosen and loved.
But at some point I realized that I had already done everything. My first life had run out, with success and satisfaction. I could have stayed in my comfort zone and gone on repeating the same things over and over again, or I could have taken my courage in both hands and made a change.
And I had no doubt
On December 31, 2016, I resigned, giving up yet another 19 years of my prestigious permanent position, career, and the job I loved.
My first life, at age 47, had come to an end. With much satisfaction and zero regrets
A new existence was waiting for me.
It was time to go to her.
I’ve travelled alla around the world I started to create a collection of clothing and accessories, designed in Italy and sustainable made in communities and not in factories. In India. Morocco, Colombia and of course Italy.. in the last 8 years in my second life in which 3 years ago I moved to Miami, I built up a strong IG community of 91K followers thank to my passion and ability in the storytelling which’s actually been my first job, in my first life. Now I run a company in Italy and one in US. Dress more with less means to dress with less fast fashion and more one of a kind fashion. I make one of a kind productions only.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly yes, it has been a smooth road, as always, in my opinion, when you are on the right path. The most difficult part was to quit my celebrity life( for many I hosted years my Formula 1 program with millions of views and I was very popular). But my dream was t move to Miami and start a second life from ground zero! It’s possible, even at 47. Just by following heard and your dreams.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is all about travelling the world and searching stories of the artisans and their manufactories. And make their craftsmanship more contemporary by design my own styles I love diversity and I love craftsmanship which is culture of a country. A Country without craftsmanship is a Country without culture.
My products are all sustainable made and I’m proud to work with women cooperatives in Marrakech. Morocco , in Colombia and in India. Supporting their efforts to be independents and free
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
People asks for unique pieces.
And my collection is one of a kind. They are every day more conscious about the damages made by the fast fashion sister and they appreciate unicity.
The big trend is to buy in small
Pop-ups or markets more than in shops.
