Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Laduzinski.
Elizabeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in private practice. I graduated school in Argentina with a degree in Psychology. I worked in hospitals and schools as well as private practice in Argentina. In 2002, my family and I relocated to Aventura. I developed a program for immigrant children at an agency that served a network of schools and carried out the program helping families with children integrate to the new culture.
I wrote a children’s book titled The Move and La Mudanza about relocation to provide tools to families going through such process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I enjoy very much the work I do.
My relocation experience was smooth. Always trying to balance work and being a wife and mother of 3.
Arriving in the States, I needed to complete certain course work and take the licensure test. Additionally, I had to adjust to the differences in language, value system, and legal and ethical standards a new country introduces, which I did not expect to have to do well into my career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have a psychotherapy practice, with a post graduate certification in Family Therapy and a second post graduate certification in Cognitive Therapy.
I am most known for working with families and children, with areas of expertise in Anxiety Disorders and Relocation. I am proud of the children’s book I wrote, which follows a child during their family’s relocation and all the uncertainties and emotions that come with that. My focus on families going through relocation has been a speciality that has become extremely useful and unique, especially in South Florida. Being able to deliver psychotherapy in a bilingual environment, while deeply understanding the very real concerns experienced both children and parents has allowed me to have a significant impact in many families that have transitioned their lives to this country. Additionally, after having initiated my career in South Florida by working primarily in the school system, I am able to treat my patients and their families in an integrated fashion, collaborating closely with the schools that my patients attend, their pediatrician or other medical professionals, and their community more broadly.
I am proud of the amount of people I have met and helped through the years, making relocations, one of the more difficult transitions in life, more enjoyable.
What were you like growing up?
I am a TCK (Third Culture Kid). I relocated 3 times with my family of origin, when I was 6 years old, 12 years old and 17 years old. This means I grew up within different cultures. Being the oldest of 3 children, I was always very responsible and concerned about my younger siblings. I was a very good student and a competitive swimmer. I enjoyed participating in sleepaway camp and community events.
