Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Zito.
Hi Ed, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since our beginning in 2019, our program provides a safe and welcoming outlet for disabled servicemen and servicewomen to connect with one another, challenge themselves and each other, and remind them that there is still nothing they can’t do. Through our program, Veterans are able to join our team as a way to connect, bond, and use this experience as a recreational and therapeutic way to help manage stresses from their military experiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been both rewarding and challenging when it comes to sustaining the program. While we have experienced many successes and seen the positive impact on our veterans, one ongoing challenge has been raising the funds needed to cover ice time. Securing consistent financial support remains a constant struggle, but we continue to work hard through fundraising, partnerships, and community support to keep the program going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As President of the Panthers Warriors, I oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, including community events, tournaments, and fundraising efforts. I am incredibly proud of the growth we have achieved as an organization dedicated to supporting veterans with disabilities. Our impact is made possible through the commitment of our board members and officials, all of whom serve on a volunteer basis. Because of this, 100% of all donations go directly toward supporting veterans with disabilities and advancing our mission of healing through hockey. Setting us apart from other charities.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Yes, we have many dedicated members who help support and strengthen our mission. Wayne Whitmore and Nick Butterworth, both Vice Presidents, assist with day-to-day operations and leadership. Ryan Teems supports veterans with their disability claims, Gavin Partin manages social media, Zac Saltzman oversees our website, and Rob Sandoval plays a key role in fundraising efforts.
Our major support outside of the organization comes from the Florida Panthers and MOSS Construction, both of whom have been tremendous partners in our mission. Their support through funding for ice time and equipment has been instrumental in helping us serve veterans with disabilities and continue growing our program.
