Today we’d like to introduce you to Donisha Brown, M. Psy..
Hi Donisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Looking back, my journey probably makes more sense than it did while I was living it.
Every chapter of my life has taught me something about people.
My journey started at the GREAT Bethune-Cookman University where I received my B.S. of Arts with a focus in Hospitality. During that time I worked in the entertainment industry where I learned my superpower. I’m great at reading patterns, body language, people. That sparked my interest in the Psychology field and fueled me as I completed my graduate degrees, and although that season looked very different from where I am today, it taught me resilience, emotional intelligence, and how to understand people beyond first impressions. Those lessons unexpectedly became some of the greatest assets in my work as a behaviorist.
Today, I work in the Psychology field specializing in Applied Behavior Analysis because I believe behavior isn’t just something we measure—it’s something we understand. Every child, every family, and every community has a story, and meaningful change begins when we take the time to understand the people behind the behavior.
That philosophy has naturally expanded beyond my clinical work. I currently serve as Vice Chair of the Early Learning Coalition Policy Council, I’m a member of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, and I’m building organizations focused on helping people, businesses, and communities thrive through intentional leadership and behavioral science.
Alongside that work, I founded Goddess Events because celebration is another form of community. Creating spaces where families gather, connect, and create lasting memories is just as meaningful to me as the work I do in clinical settings. On the surface those worlds seem very different, but to me they’re connected by one purpose: creating environments where people can grow, connect, and feel valued.
At the core of everything I do is one belief: our circumstances may shape us, but they don’t have to define us. My goal isn’t simply to build successful businesses that will supersede me and act as a pillar to the progress for my community. I use every opportunity I’ve been given to create pathways for others, elevate my community, and leave systems better than I found them.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! and honestly, I’m grateful for that.
I’ve learned that struggle has a way of introducing you to yourself.
There were seasons when I was working in entertainment while putting myself through school because I refused to let my circumstances dictate my future. There were seasons where I questioned whether I belonged in professional spaces because my path looked so different from everyone else’s. And there were seasons where I was balancing motherhood, graduate education, entrepreneurship, and a career while wondering if I was asking too much of myself.
What I’ve realized is that resilience isn’t built when life is easy—it’s built when you keep showing up anyway.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve had to learn is that your past doesn’t disqualify you from leading. If anything, it’s often the very thing that equips you to lead with empathy, humility, and perspective. My experiences taught me not to judge people by where they are today because I’ve lived what it feels like to be underestimated.
Professionally, I’ve also learned that building something meaningful takes patience. Whether it’s earning trust with families in ABA, serving in community leadership, or launching businesses, I’ve had to become comfortable with building brick by brick instead of chasing overnight success.
Today, I don’t see my struggles as obstacles anymore. I see them as evidence that growth is rarely linear—and that some of the strongest foundations are built long before anyone notices the building.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a creative by nature, so I’ve never been good at staying in one lane.
By day, I work in Applied Behavior Analysis helping children and families while working toward becoming a BCBA. Outside of that, you’ll usually find me building something—from The Keystone Method, where I’m exploring how behavioral science can create stronger organizations and communities, to Affinity Wonders, a platform where I explore conversations around confidence, intimacy, communication, and healthy relationships in an ever-changing economy. Or Goddess Events, where I design captivating celebrations that bring people together and make them feel special.
I’m also the creator behind @glittertogluesticks, where I share the beautifully chaotic side of motherhood, entrepreneurship, confidence, and family life—with plenty of humor because sometimes laughing is the best survival skill.
What I’m most proud of is that none of my work is random. Whether I’m working with a child, decorating a room, creating content, or serving my community, it’s all rooted in the same goal: helping people feel seen, supported, and inspired to become the best version of themselves.
I think what sets me apart is that I lead with both science and creativity. I love proving that you can be analytical, artistic, compassionate, and ambitious all at the same time.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
People often describe me as a risk-taker, but I don’t actually see myself that way. I see myself as someone who’s willing to bet on growth.
Some of the biggest decisions I’ve made probably looked risky from the outside. I worked in entertainment to put myself through college and graduate school. I chose to pursue behavioral science, started businesses before I felt completely ready, stepped into community leadership, and continue to invest my time in opportunities that don’t always come with immediate rewards.
None of those decisions were made because I was fearless. They were made because staying where I was felt like the bigger risk.
I’ve learned that growth usually asks you to get comfortable being misunderstood for a while. There were moments when people questioned my choices, and honestly, there were moments when I questioned them too. But I’ve never wanted my decisions to be driven by fear or by other people’s expectations of what my life should look like. God has and has always had the steering wheel, I just pick the outfits. My full faith is always in HIM. I walk by faith, never by sight.
