Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Buckmir.
Hi Dana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I published my first book, Plenty of Laughs: One Woman’s Journey Navigating the Online Dating Waters in 2018. The memoir is a comical account of my online dating experience in South Florida.
Last year, I published my second book, Everything Will Be Okay. The memoir describes how I survived a domestic violence relationship and reclaimed my voice. Since publishing my latest memoir, I’ve been working to spread awareness about domestic violence and narcissistic abuse.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although a sensitive and triggering topic I find it so important to share my story. Abuse thrives in silence. When we share our stories, we heal our collective trauma and reclaim our power.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m proud of the work I do to advocate against domestic violence.
The audiobook for Everything Will Be Okay was released in July. I think it’s just another platform to reach people. I also work with aspiring authors on the path to publication. Everyone has a story. I help it come alive on the page.
Any advice for finding a mentor or network in general?
Never say no to an opportunity whether it’s a coffee meeting or a network event. One opportunity can lead to another.
