Life & Work with Company B of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Company B.

Hi Company B, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey in music started completely by accident. Back in 1986, a friend asked me to accompany her to an audition to become a backup dancer and singer for Ish Ledesma, formerly of the group Foxy. Ironically, the friend I went with decided she didn’t want to do it, but during the audition they asked me if I could dance. I said yes — and that moment changed my life forever.
I became one of the three female backup performers for Ish. During performances, whenever we stepped to the front of the stage, the audience response was incredible. Ish noticed the energy and connection we had with the crowd and decided to create an all-girl group out of Miami. That group became Company B.
The name Company B was inspired by the classic song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B.” Soon after, our music started taking off. Our hit song “Fascinated” climbed to #21 on the Billboard charts, and suddenly we were traveling all over the United States performing for fans everywhere. It was an exciting time and something I will always cherish.
Like many journeys in life, mine had a few twists and turns. I stepped away from the group for a period of time, but music always stayed in my heart. In 2006, I returned alongside original member Charlotte McKinnon, the original voice of “Fascinated.” After Charlotte later left the group, I fought hard to continue the legacy of Company B. I eventually went to court with K.C. of KC and the Sunshine Band over the rights to the name, and in 2013 I secured the trademark for Company B.
From there, I rebuilt the group with two talented women who shared the same passion for music and performing: Siddy and Dalia. Together, we have released several songs, traveled internationally, and continued bringing the Company B legacy to audiences old and new.
Today, nearly 40 years later, we are still performing and still doing what we love. What makes this chapter especially exciting is that we are continuing to evolve musically. Our newest single, “Take Me Away,” releasing May 21, is an Afrobeat-inspired dance record — something different from the freestyle sound fans know us for, while still keeping the fun, energy, and spirit that has always defined Company B.
As we prepare to celebrate our 40th anniversary this year, I feel grateful for every stage, every fan, every challenge, and every blessing along the way. To still be performing, creating new music, and sharing this journey after all these years is truly a dream come true.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, the journey was not always easy. Leaving Company B at one point in my life was very emotional for me. Music had become such a big part of who I was, and stepping away left me feeling sad and uncertain about the future. But during that time, I focused on building my personal life and creating a strong foundation for myself and my family.
I went back to school, got married, and became a mother to two wonderful children and a stepmother to an amazing son. Today, I am also blessed with three beautiful grandchildren who bring so much joy to my life. Even though I stepped away from the spotlight for a while, music never truly left my heart.
One of the biggest struggles was rebuilding and continuing the legacy of Company B after so many changes over the years. There were challenges, sacrifices, and even legal battles to protect the name and what we had built. But I believed in the music, believed in the fans, and believed that the story of Company B was not finished.
Looking back now, I realize those life experiences made me stronger — not only as an artist, but as a woman, mother, and grandmother. They gave me a deeper appreciation for every opportunity I have today. Being able to still perform, travel, create new music, and celebrate nearly 40 years of Company B is something I never take for granted.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Company B is known for bringing high-energy performances, feel-good music, and a unique style that fans instantly recognize. We specialize in freestyle music and have spent decades traveling across the United States and internationally performing for audiences who grew up with our music and for newer generations discovering us for the first time.
One thing that truly sets us apart is our signature white wigs. The idea actually started years ago around Christmas time when Ish Ledesma wanted to give Miami a “White Christmas” feeling. The audience loved the look so much that it became part of our identity. Over the years, those white wigs became iconic for Company B. Now when we walk into a venue or step onto a stage, people immediately know who we are before we even sing a note.
What I’m most proud of is the connection we have with our fans. After performances, people often come up to us and tell us our music helped them through difficult times in their lives. Hearing stories about how songs like “Fascinated” brought people joy, comfort, or memories during hard moments is something I never take for granted. Knowing our music has touched people in that way means more to me than any chart position or award ever could.
We also believe in giving back. Every year we participate in cancer walks, and we have proudly performed for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events three years in a row. Being able to use our platform not only to entertain people but also to support important causes is very meaningful to us.
Nearly 40 years later, we are still performing, still creating music, and still bringing positive energy to audiences everywhere. That longevity, passion, and connection with our fans is what truly makes Company B special.

How do you think about luck?
I truly believe that through the grace of God, we have been blessed throughout this journey. In an industry that can be very unpredictable, we have been fortunate to continue performing, traveling, and sharing our music with people from so many different places and backgrounds.
Of course, there have been challenges along the way, but I try to look at both the good times and difficult moments as part of the path that shaped me into who I am today. I feel very grateful that after nearly 40 years, Company B is still working, still creating music, and still connecting with audiences.
To me, the greatest blessing is being able to spread feel-good music that brings people happiness, memories, and joy. When fans sing along to our songs or tell us how the music helped them through hard times, it reminds me why we continue doing this.
Life is good, and I never take any of it for granted.
