Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Jorge
Hi Briana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in a Dominican household, I often straightened my hair to the point of damaging all of my curls. I remember hating how my curly hair looked and decided to start my journey of getting my curls healthy. As I learned how to care for my curls I developed a deep love for them.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, I quickly realized my true passion was hair. This lead me to pursue my career in this field of curly hair. My goal as I entered a new career was to make sure I educated my clients on how to care for and embrace their unique texture, helping them appreciate the beauty of their natural hair.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey as a curly hair specialist has been smooth but not easy; it required a lot of dedication and time. Living in West Palm, I drove an hour to Broward to work at a curly hair salon due to the lack of options nearby. It was absolutely worth it. My passion for learning about curls motivated me to make that commute almost everyday, helping me become the stylist I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a curly hair specialist, I cater to all curl textures and abosolutely love doing curly cuts! Growing up, I often hated my haircuts because stylists would take off too much or cut my hair wet, leading to some real trauma around hair cuts.
Now, as a curl specialist, I’m committed to ensuring my clients and I are always on the same page about their cuts. I’ll provide my professional opinion on what needs to go, but if you’re not comfortable, we can always find a compromise. It’s important to me that you feel confident and happy with your hair!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Just start, don’t over think it. Make sure to take educational curly hair classes and be patient with yourself.
