Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Bru.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m Beth Bru, a Miami-based artist working across murals, sculpture, and painting. I grew up in the desert, which taught me to find beauty in wide-open spaces and stillness. My journey as an artist hasn’t always been smooth, I’ve faced rejection, financial uncertainty, and the challenge of moving to Miami with very little. But I’ve stayed consistent, kept learning, and trusted my faith, which has helped me persevere and continue creating work that brings joy.
I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with organizations like Baptist Health, Live Nation, Miami Art in Public Places, and CBS News Miami. I was also recognized as 2nd place and grant recipient in Green Space Miami’s “Artist as Catalyst Program” in 2025. Each step has been a mix of risk, persistence, and learning to embrace both the highs and lows of the creative path.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced rejection, uncertainty, and periods where it felt like nothing was moving forward. Moving to Miami with very little money was a big challenge, and there were moments when I questioned if I could make this work. What helped me get through was staying consistent with my art, staying open to feedback, and trusting God. Each struggle has shaped my approach, strengthened my resolve, and reminded me why I do this work- to spread joy to those who need it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in bold, vibrant murals, playful sculpture, and abstract painting inspired by Memphis design and the nostalgia of the 1980s and 1990s. My work explores joy, chaos, and the sacredness of everyday life, blending structured geometry with spontaneous, lively energy. Dedicating my work to God has shifted my entire approach and career, allowing me to create with intention and purpose. What sets me apart is my ability to infuse joy into every piece while maintaining depth and thoughtfulness, art that uplifts, inspires reflection, and celebrates the beauty in life. I’m most proud of my solo exhibition Fruits of the Spirit (2026, Miami-Dade Public Library System) and of every public piece that brings beauty and light to a community space. At the core of my practice is a mission to share hope, joy, and the presence of God through art.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people might not know that I played basketball for 11 years. That experience gave me discipline, teamwork skills, and resilience, which translate directly into how I approach my art and projects.
