Life & Work with Andres Perez-Molina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Perez-Molina.

Andres Perez-Molina

Hi Andres, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My calling to Life and Relationship Coaching came after the darkest time of my life. I suffered a spinal injury in August 2020 that temporarily left me paralyzed from the neck down. It was compared to the Christopher Reeves ‘Superman’ injury except for one centimeter. A centimeter of hope, a centimeter that would define the rest of my life on how I mentally looked at this situation.

Of course, depression, defeat, anger, and fear were my most dominant emotions, but it wasn’t till one night I changed all that. I finally decided to accept my situation and stop fighting it, accepting that I actually was blessed to have an opportunity to heal. It was enlightening how burying my ego could allow my spirit to live, test my character, and ignite my resilience. Challenge accepted!

Three weeks into healing I walked from zero to twenty steps overnight and never used a wheelchair again. That afternoon the Physical Therapy Director came to my room to ask what I was doing differently. “This isn’t normal,” she said. She then asked me if I would be interested in talking to other trauma patients and sharing my process, I felt honored for this opportunity. Little did I know, I was coaching other patients on “never giving up.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing challenging in life runs smoothly. Resilience isn’t tested when things run smoothly, resilience is tested when they don’t. The beautiful thing is that each small win builds strength, which eventually leads to big results.

In these moments in life, it’s critical to simplify your thoughts. Patience, because it’s a marathon not a sprint, Presence, because the only thing that matters is now. Positivity, because gratitude and humility are strengths, power to embrace and welcome failure but never defeat.

One of the biggest struggles was believing everything would continue to heal at the speed of zero to twenty. Fine motor skills with my hands frustrated me the most, it truly tested my commitment. The small things we all take for granted: feeding yourself, bathing, dressing, writing, and the ability to hold things confidently in your hands. To this very day, my left hand is still limited, a reminder of my appreciation for every small thing in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed international Life and Relationship Coach. I was recruited the day after my discharge and started my business Coaching with Andres. I specialize in guiding people through personal obstacles, discovering personal goals, and constructing healthy relationships. I recently just achieved my new license in Executive Corporate Leadership Coaching, and my next step is into corporate coaching and motivational speaking.

I’m most ironically known for my previous career in acting. I was a full-time actor for the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles for over 15 years before my injury. Working in various TV shows, movies, and commercials. I still pursue acting part-time in Florida on the side of coaching.

You can say recovering from being paralyzed was my Oscar performance of art and life! I’m most proud of how my family, faith, and loved ones helped me at my lowest. Coming from someone who didn’t feel comfortable asking for help, now realize how empowering it is!

What sets me apart from others is that my spirit focuses on the solutions in life, not the problem. I welcome rejection, failure, and defeat because that’s inevitable. Success isn’t defined by completion or by winning, it’s the grit to keep going. True grit makes your journey more meaningful and rewarding than the destination.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
Risk-taking for some reason gets the perception of being reckless or irresponsible, which I personally try my best to avoid those scenarios. Risk-taking in a methodical way, being honest and realistic with either outcome is what living is for. Fail at greatness, good will be there waiting for either way.

My first biggest major risk was to leave my family and hometown in Washington DC to pursue acting in Los Angeles at age 21. Acting was a hobby at first, a paying job here and there, then became somewhat of a part-time job. I waited and created an opportunity to pursue it full-time in Los Angeles.

Through a strong work ethic, I then had representation waiting for me, eligibility to join the Screen Actors Guild, and a job set up. Gave myself two years to accomplish my list of goals, and re-evaluate after that. I excelled in my goals and in two years became fifteen.
