Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexiyah Alexander
Hi Alexiyah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For as long as I can remember, art has been my escape, my voice, and my way of connecting with the world. Growing up in Miami, surrounded by vibrant culture and colors, I couldn’t help but be inspired. But starting my own business, That seemed like a dream too far out of reach until life pushed me to create my own opportunities.
At 22, juggling responsibilities and working hard to make ends meet on an $18 an hour paycheck, I knew I wanted more for myself. Miami’s high cost of living, especially the burden of a $721 monthly car insurance bill, weighed heavily on me. But instead of letting it discourage me, I let it fuel my drive.
I began creating art during my free time just for fun I started with drawing and painting cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, The proud family, etc. but with my own twist to them then I started posting it on Instagram. I poured my heart into every piece, Friends and family seen my skills encouraged me so I began doing more to find my own way and style , and I soon realized there was potential to turn my passion into a business.
The name “Aaliyah” is my middle name and it reflects my personal journey, my way of doing things, my way of creating, and my way of inspiring others.
Building the business wasn’t easy. I learned as I went, navigating marketing, branding, and customer relationships. Each sale reminded me that people believed in my vision and skills, and it motivated me to keep going.
Today, theaaliyahway represents more than just art it’s an indication of resilience, ambition, and the beauty of taking chances. My journey has just begun, and I’m excited to see how far this path will take me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well starting something from the ground up won’t always be smooth at the beginning I’ve encountered some financial struggles balancing my personal expenses then with this business the costs for different supplies, such as the canvases, paint, brushes, easels, etc. they’re not so cheap all the time lol so it was a bit overwhelming at times. As an entrepreneur I’ve encountered self doubt a lot questioning myself if I’m doing the right thing, and questioning would people outside of family and friends even like/connect with my artwork. A struggle I’ve also encountered is my audience trying to establish a consistent customer base and grow a following isn’t as easy and it takes a lot of patience
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At theaaliyahway, I create art that speaks to people. My work is a fusion of creativity and emotion, designed to resonate with people on a personal level. Whether it’s custom pieces, prints, or already for sale pieces, every item reflects my dedication to storytelling and through art. I specialize in art that celebrates connections. My style is bold and vibrant, also inspired by the energy of Miami, my art is also rich with an animated touch to it. I as well find satisfaction in offering custom pieces that allow my clients to see their vision come to life in a way that feels uniquely theirs. I am known for my ability to infuse meaning into my art. I have clients often say that my pieces feel personal, as though they were created just for them. People recognize theaaliyahway for its authenticity, attention to detail, and the emotions my art evokes. I am most proud of Seeing how my art brings joy and comfort to people , I’m also proud of the courage it took to turn my passion into a business and stay committed, even through the struggles. I say what sets theaaliyahway apart is the personal touch I bring to every piece. My art isn’t mass-produced; it’s carefully crafted with heart and purpose, everything starts off with a blank canvas and a pencil in my hand. I strive to create a connection with my audience, ensuring that every piece feels meaningful and special to them.
I also believe in the power of relatability… my journey, as a young artist building something from the ground up, may inspire others who may feel like they’re not “ready” yet. I can remind people that starting where you are is enough. Stay consistent and only you know where youu see yourself going with your goals.
What’s next?
For the future i’m planning to expand products meaning adding to me working on canvases I would like to have my art on some apparel, I believe that’ll allow people to incorporate my art more in their lives and they can wear their own vision as well. I’m looking forward to growing my presence online and in the community, explore collaborations with other artists and brands, also launch an official website. I envision showcasing more of my work at local events and pop-up shops in Miami and beyond. Engaging directly with the community and meeting clients face-to-face would be an exciting step forward. Digital art and downloadable content are areas I’d love to explore. Offering things like phone wallpapers, digital prints, or NFT collections could be a new way for people to experience my work. I am looking forward to more personal growth more learning, improving, and taking creative risks, also giving back as theaaliyahway becomes more established I hope to give back and support causes that align with my values, such as art education and/or programs for young creatives. For my big changes way in the future lols maybe considering relocating or expanding beyond Miami may also be in the cards, depending on where the business takes me.
