Life & Work with Aglaya Shadrina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aglaya Shadrina.

Hi Aglaya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story and philosophy. When I decided to start my own business, I wanted to become a mentor who could help people explore the universe of music with confidence. I am a very creative and artistic person. Ever since I can remember, different forms of art, including music, have intrigued me. I believe that life itself is an endless creative process. I graduated from a Musical College, as a piano teacher and child psychophysiologist and also went to University, where I earned an MA in economics.

While I pursued different career paths, deep down, I have always wanted to end up in a creative field. So now, I offer creative accompaniment to aspiring kids and adults in the world of music, providing composition lessons, piano lessons, vocal lessons, art therapy, and music theory classes. And here I am, living the life of my dreams and making dreams happen every day!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I believe in listening to my heart and following the voice of my intuition. When I decided to start my own business, I did not receive much support, as most of the people in my inner circle thought it was a very irrational decision. However, I knew in my heart that it was going to be a beautiful and meaningful experience that would allow me to make a difference every day. Thus, I quit my career in tech, started my own business, and never looked back. It just happened overnight.

Speaking of obstacles, when 2020 happened, I easily switched to teaching online. I am grateful for the support of my students, who were open to this experience and continued exploring the world of music through tough and uncertain times. It has filled my heart with endless gratitude and brought me the opportunity to connect with new students from all over the world.

My advice to those who have a dream: don’t be afraid to follow your heart and listen to your intuition. All the answers are inside of us.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I happily offer one-on-one piano lessons, online group music theory sessions, and art therapy and composition meetups and courses. I am currently working on a children’s piano book and a fun course for young beginners. I am very excited about them and can’t wait to share them with you!

The experience of learning music can be truly transformative. I believe that the learning process should be fun and joyful. I always find a way to encourage and support my students during the learning process, as I know that learning something new can be intimidating and requires patience. It makes me happy that I get a chance to encourage more people to start taking lessons, believe in themselves, and know that they can start learning at any age and go as far as they want: they can learn how to read music, compose music, play by ear, and play their favorite songs.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
I am not sure if I am fully aligned with the concept of risk-taking. I feel like my approach to life is about following the guidance of your heart, even if it feels scary in the moment. The most beautiful things in life happen when we let go of control and resistance.

It’s been an amazing journey so far, and I believe that we make the most meaningful decisions and take the best paths in life from a place of love and sincerity. Playing the piano is a natural extension of my body, and creativity is part of my DNA. I am grateful that I can positively influence many people and spread the love for music.”
