Today we’d like to introduce you to Abel Sanchez.
Hi Abel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a local historian who rando created the IG @Miamistadium back on Thanksgiving weekend 2016. To see how it has evolved and grown from a page into a brand is pretty amazing and again totally random. Everything has happened in a very natural, organic way and it’s a blessing how the MS movement and merch have resonated throughout this community and beyond.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s actually been remarkably smooth other than the occasional biter/hater, but that’s how you know you’re doing it right.
Again, it’s a very organic brand and movement, the drip continues to sell out and it’s all by word of mouth. I’ve literally shipped shirts all over the country.
My merch collaboration with Cushy Gigs has been great as well; they truly get and bring the vision to life. And of course, shout out to Danny Waserstein and Shoe Gallery Miami for being the first shop to carry my Miami Orange Bowl drip, amazing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work in e-commerce which is pretty flexible and obviously 24/7 type deal. I balance this with the Miami Stadium business, which is all me; that’s where I create and sell my merch etc. Over the years I’ve been blessed to have collab with everyone from film studios and major league baseball to Louisville Slugger, fun.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Honestly, I’m humbled you guys even want to speak with me lol I didn’t do this to be an “influencer” per se; the page is just a very cool outlet for a lifetime’s worth of continuous research. I’m amazed even fifty people follow let alone the fact I’m coming up on 10,000 that’s crazy.
When everyone from Rick Ross to Mike Piazza shows love, it’s wild but appreciated; small victories add up mos def.
The craziest thing was being recognized by Nike and Game 7 who kindly hooked myself and a small group of local culture makers up VIP style for the Dolphins vs. Steelers game last October where they were celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Miami Dolphins perfect season (1972)
A beautiful, surreal experience which even led to my Miami Orange Bowl Homage shirt landing inside Shoe Gallery Miami, legendary local institution. Just remarkable and again sooo go with the flow and organic; you can’t script it.
For me, it is all about content & community; as for my IG page my personal philosophy has always been where history and culture collide.
