Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Fuentes.
Nancy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I was last interviewed I have been focusing more of my time in the Miami area as well as working online with clients internationally. I have developed a great network of professionals in the field of exercise, diet & nutrition, health and wellness and even a bit of spirituality (for those clients interested in this area of deeper understanding and life balance.
As a result of the piece written on me my base of female clients, ages 40-60 increased dramatically. I was humbled to hear that I inspired many women in this age group and empowered them to continue feeling vibrant and healthy. I also began working with more serious athletes who were and are preparing for professional fitness, bikini and bodybuilding competitions because of my experience in competition training and nutrition.
I’ve never been happier in my 35 years in the industry and keeping up with the advances in nutrition and exercise physiology has allowed me to assist my clients in defying age and looking amazing. It’s so empowering to know I’ve been helpful and that even at 53, I’m as enthusiastic and relevant as I’ve ever been!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I continue to mentor younger athletes and young women entering the field. It’s an exciting time and I’m stressing that while the field is booming, there are many sub-par “professionals” who may look good but don’t have the skill set or ability to take on the huge responsibility of assisting clients. By reading, listening to professionals in the various fields of diet and exercise and modern medicine, and only dispensing responsible advice on topics you really can speak on (instead of being a know-it-all) will you truly help clients and be respected in the industry… especially long term.
This is a great field for young women to work in and they shouldn’t be afraid to take on the challenge of working and assisting male clients as those barriers have been broken now!
Please tell us about Body2Bodyfitness.
In the last few years, I’ve begun specializing in online training of clients and coaching professional athletes from several foreign countries. The technology and social networking available today have facilitated a whole new face to the business, mine in particular. Additionally, I strengthened my relationships with south Florida professionals in the bodybuilding field allowing me to learn so much about what judges are looking for from competitors. I’m also working with some companies who are developing cutting edge supplements that I’ll share as the project’s progress!!
Who have you been inspired by?
Rachel McLish, a female bodybuilder from the early ’80s. I was always impressed in her physique as she always kept her femininity throughout her career. She was sexy yet worked very hard in the gym. She was one of the very first women to compete in the Ms. Olympia competition combining some muscularity with beautiful femininity when this combination wasn’t widely accepted. Today, it’s wildly popular and a look many women aspire towards so I was and continue to be impressed by her pioneering attitude and work ethic.
There is so many other women that have inspired me throughout my life simply because of their drive and dedication to succeeding in whatever field they are in. Diane Sawyer the journalist is such an example of a woman who seems to be a class act. She’s intelligent, hardworking beautiful and competent.
