Life and Work with Krystal Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Gonzalez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I can remember, I have always been the talkative type. I made friends with anyone around me and never missed an opportunity to entertain someone. I was apart of the art club, drama club, the church chorus and theater group, school announcements and at one point the president of my class. I wanted my voice to be heard and I wanted to engage with people in some way. I’m currently studying to be a teacher but I knew that I had these built up ideas of being something more. It wasn’t until I kept receiving affirmations from friends and family around me that I actually decided to take a leap of faith and start a lifestyle blog. I am in love with my city! From the food to the fashion to the entertainment, there is no other place like Miami. Being plus size and from Miami, I thought I had a unique point of view I could share with others. My blog became a creative way to share great places to go to our city and look good doing it! I am still fairly new at this but so far it has been rewarding.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has not been an easy one and I don’t expect it to be. Currently, there are bloggers all over the world, so the main struggle is to be able to stand apart from the rest. What am I bringing to the table? What makes me so special? From developing content to increase engagement from followers, it has not been smooth. I have learned to not stress it. It’s easier to love what you do, don’t compare yourself to others and be as authentic as you can. I try to remind myself that “Comparison is a thief of joy.” If you are true to yourself, eventually you grow a real audience who actually care about what you have to say. As long as you are happy with what you are creating, everything should fall into place. However, don’t be afraid to look for help. I have put myself out there and have spoken to other bloggers in the community as well as reached out to local creative development companies like Girl Blossom. Without their tips and advice, I would not be where I am today. Go for what you want and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My blog and Instagram showcases a little bit of everything. This blog has made me realize how versatile I can be. I’ve been able to talk about my personal style, recommend a great place to eat and share some encouraging words. I love that I can share my passion for food and style while being informative and helpful! I try to be as authentic as I can be and be able to laugh at myself once in a while. I think that’s what sets me apart, I am silly, dorky and not 100% together all the time, but that’s okay!

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I honestly believe my high school drama class really took me out of my shell and helped me become the person I am today. We were pushed to find our voices and really step outside the box. We celebrated our individuality. I realized I had a love for entertaining and really interacting with people. I was finally able to put myself out there and have an open mind to new experiences.
