Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Noralus.
Jeanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
A few years ago, I worked for a hotline that handled suicide prevention and Veterans in crisis. Although I loved helping people, I realized the job was starting to take a toll on me emotionally. My sister suggested that I find something to help me manage the stress and to practice self-care.
I had always loved to sew and had an interest in interior design so I decided to start off by making pillow covers. When I started making the pillow covers, I realized how relaxed it made me feel and how it reignited my passion for sewing and home decor so I decided to turn my hobby into a business. I received great feedback from my customers so I added more products, like hand-poured scented soy candles, to my store and even started DIY projects for the home for my IGTV and YouTube channel.
My goal is to be a driving force in the home decor and interior decorating industry. I want to add a little piece of my passion for each product and create pieces that are timeless and beautiful.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur has not been a smooth process but is necessary in order for me to build the life that I want for me and my family.
The biggest struggles I’ve dealt with in entrepreneurship was expecting a certain level of support. When starting a business, we typically expect our friends and family members to support in any way and when it doesn’t happen, we lose focus on the people who are helping with our growth. My advice to women would be to focus on how you can make your business better and appreciate the people, your tribe, who are supporting you and helping you build.

I am most proud of my DIY projects. I want people to feel empowered and to know that if I can do it, you can do it too. Not only do I offer home decor consultations, but I can also design and/or refurbish furniture and offer customized accessories, all at a fair price.
Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I would have to say competition. When we realize we are in this together, we will move so many mountains and open so many doors for each other.
