Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Gonzalez.
Gabriela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Four years ago, I found myself struggling with body confidence which led me to major binge eating that became worse as time went on. For 1-2 years, binge eating happened more frequently and made me feel worse about myself every time. I became exhausted with constantly struggling with my mindset of food. I decided to turn things around for myself. Learning to stay consistent with my workouts and stopping my binge eating was not easy, it was a very slow process. For a year, I focused on my mindset and I taught myself to stop focusing on my physical appearance. Time went on and I became consistent and dedicated to improving myself to become a more confident person. I fell in love with fitness and health and all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, I literally felt a difference in energy levels, body confidence, and motivation all around, when I got into fitness. I realize now that I should have never been so embarrassed about my body confidence or binge eating issues, it is extremely common. At the time, I believed I was the only one and I kept everything to myself. This mental glow up inspired me to inspire all the girls around me struggling with the same issues.
Has it been a smooth road?
It is not easy and will never be easy to be determined in your health and fitness goals. Comfort foods are called comfort foods for a reason, and our bodies have to adapt to a healthy lifestyle. My number one advise would be to start your fitness journey for other reasons that are not physical appearance. Go to the gym and eat healthy for more than a physical change, it is so much more rewarding to stay consistent and feel amazing. A few months later, you will look back and realize all the physical improvements you have made and it will just be another reminder as to why you enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of. What sets you apart from others?
I made an Instagram page to share my workouts, my struggles, meal ideas, and most importantly to connect with other girls who are struggling.
I am proud to say I have educated girls about fitness, I want to teach young girls to not be afraid of lifting weights and to spread the truth about many fitness myths.
I want to create an environment where personal fit struggles can be shared without embarrassment.
Most importantly, I want to change confidence levels, helping girls love who they are is what I am about.
Insecurity is the enemy and I want to change how girls see themselves. Throughout my fitness journey, the best change was not physical, the best change was in my mindset and confidence levels.
Who have you been inspired by?
If I’m being real, my inspiration came from the negative talk I would here from girls every day. A day in the life of a teenage girl can be full of negative talk, we tear ourselves down and criticize ourselves. Girls are constantly pointing out things they do not like about their physical appearance. In most situations, we have to simply learn to love our flaws, we were made this way and there’s nothing else to do but to love it. Being unique is fun and we are lucky to be the person we are. When it comes to body confidence I wanted to change the game!
Negative girl talk inspired me. It did not have to be this way, we could feel amazing about our bodies if are treating our bodies right, staying active, and always focusing on our mindset.
