Life and Work with Francesca Vazquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesca Vazquez.

Francesca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I completed my doctorate in clinical psychology in 2014, specializing in health psychology. Health Psychologists work with the mental or psychological aspects of disease management and prevention. So, I’ve spent years helping people navigate the medical system, prevent disease and improve their mood through stress reduction, substance abuse counseling, mindfulness practices, and nutritional psychology. I also became a certified yoga instructor, studied ways to use food as medicine for mental health and would regularly write articles for well-known health and wellness websites.

Ease to Wellness was born as a platform that combined these three aspects: psychology, writing and wellness. It’s a lifestyle website for the modern-day woman who seeks to design a life revolving around her wellbeing. Wellness is the priority throughout our platform and we help you design a life that feels good. I began writing all of the articles being published and soon started receiving article submissions from writers across the globe. We have monthly wellness events too!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It is never easy. There are continuous bumps in the road and when you’re the only one on your team in the early stages of a business, it can be tough to manage your time and be highly motivated at all times. Ease to Wellness actually started as a wellness event planning company where retreats, events, and services were provided. This quickly shifted into an online platform in order to have a bigger reach and provide wellness education and lifestyle inspiration through our articles instead of just events and services. It took trial and error to reach a business idea that made sense at the time being. I would say having patience and doing the work are the two main advice I can give. Success doesn’t happen overnight. With social media being such a huge part of businesses today, it can be challenging to remain focused and stop comparing ourselves to others in the field. Always be authentic and don’t measure your success by outside factors but rather, how something feels. Does it feel good to do this work? Are you at peace? Are your intentions pure? Are you putting out your best effort? Stay consistent and the results will show.

Please tell us about your work with clients.
I’m a clinical psychologist and a writer. I write and edit articles about health, wellness and lifestyle on my online platform as well as other websites. As a certified yoga instructor and a true believer of the power of yoga for healing, I integrate yoga into all that I do as a brand and as a health professional. I love how Ease to Wellness can help our readers get inspired and find a balanced lifestyle.

I bring this same energy into my practice as a psychologist. I help my clients improve in any way they think necessary and integrate wellness practices into their daily life. Nutritional counseling is a central part of my practice, using food as a major tool to improve mental health in clients. My connection to private clients is very authentic and since I try to keep my clients limited, they have my phone number, we text, we follow each other on social media, and sometimes, we meet at coffee shops rather than at an office. It feels natural to connect this way with another human being. If I am not the right fit, I always refer to other professionals in the field. I think that’s what is missing in the healthcare field: more authentic, organic relationships instead of rigid ones dictated by a handbook.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
I think one of the biggest barriers is probably the feeling that “everything has been done” or the thought that “a field is saturated”. The world needs more of you and the energy you bring into your work. If you bring your most authentic self into your work and what you do on a day to day basis feels good, it’s worth the try. The wellness world is definitely overly saturated and that thought pops into my mind a few times a year, but if I let that thought stop me every time I come up with a new idea, I’d probably not get much done. I’d say overthinking kills the dream and sometimes, you have to go with your gut feelings.

If you are basing your decisions on fear, your mind will find a million reasons why it won’t work. I try to encourage other women to base their decisions on faith instead. It usually provides better results.
